System76 unveils COSMIC desktop environment Alpha 3, boasting significant enhancements. This latest release focuses on improved user experience, accessibility, and functionality, building upon the successes of previous alpha versions.

COSMIC Alpha 3 Released: A Hands-on Look At The New Features

Key improvements include early screen reader support (currently compatible with Firefox and GNOME apps using Orca), enhanced COSMIC Files file management, and a new "Made for COSMIC" section in the COSMIC Store showcasing community-developed apps. Numerous performance boosts and bug fixes further refine the COSMIC interface.

Key Features of COSMIC Alpha 3:

  • Enhanced Accessibility: Initial screen reader support for Firefox and GNOME applications via Orca. Further expansion of support is planned.
  • Customization Options: Expanded customization in COSMIC Settings, including experimental settings for fonts, icons, and toolkit theming. Power management options are also enhanced.
