The Overseer is a massive turtle robot boss in Split Fiction. Mio and Zoe have to take it down to dismantle the factory, but that’s easier said than done. With a gigantic health bar, you and your player two will need solid teamwork and quick reflexes to pull this through.

Split Fiction: How To Beat Overseer

The battle with this oversize turtle has three phases, each with its own mechanics and camera angles. In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to defeat the Overseer: From breaking down its abilities to countering its moves and emerge victorious.

How To Beat The Overseer

Phase One

As soon as you step into the room, the Overseer smashes two holes into the wall before completely tearing it down, revealing its massive mechanical turtle form. Here’s a breakdown of all its attacks in the first phase:

How To Counter

Slime Shot

The Overseer spits out green gooey slime. Dodge them. The slime moves quite slowly in this phase, so it won't be a problem.

Bouncing Spiky Egg

The Overseer throws a spiky, egg-like device that bounces between walls. Destroy the egg as quickly as possible. Break its shield using Shield Buster, matching the color of its shield to your character's.

Shielded Rocket-Eyed Drones

The Overseer opens its eyes, releasing two shielded drones: One with a blue shield and another with a red shield. They dash around the room, dealing damage and tripping players if hit. As usual, Zoe should break the blue shield, and Mio should handle the red. This will expose the drones. Shoot them down quickly.

Once you’ve taken a third of its health, the Overseer will enter phase two.

Phase TwoThe Overseer spews green toxic from its mouth, flooding the area.

You'll know phase two has begun when the Overseer spews out a flood of deadly green acid. Falling in means instant death, so quickly move to one of the two platforms at the edges of the room. They’ll rise with the flood for a short time while the rest of the area gets submerged.

When two red and blue portals appear, jump into the ones on the ground. Mio takes the red, and Zoe takes the blue. You’ll reappear on the next level up, but Mio’s path will be blocked by a red barrier. Mio needs to shoot it to retract the block and clear the way.

As you climb higher, you’ll encounter more red and blue blocks. Zoe should watch for blue blocks on Mio's side, and Mio should handle the red ones on Zoe's side to help each other progress.

There's no point in attacking the Overseer right now, as it won’t take damage. Instead, focus on using your guns to clear the path for yourself and your co-op partner.

The acid rises at a manageable pace, so don’t stress if you mess up and die a few times. You’ll have chances to recover. Once you spot large metal blocks forming into stair-like platforms, use them to jump up and reach the next battlefield.

The camera will then shift. This is quite a fun phase in terms of PoV since you’ll now see and hear the battle from the Overseer’s perspective instead of Mio and Zoe’s.

During this stage, the Overseer drops blue and red fire spitters. While they’re color-coded, you won’t need your Shield Buster here. Just shoot the spitters that match your character’s color to disable them.

Once deactivated, you can pick them up and launch them back at the Overseer to deal damage. Do this quickly. The more spitters on the ground, the harder it becomes to move across the fire-covered arena.

Once the Overseer is down to half of its HP, phase three begins.

Phase ThreeMio shoots the Overseer, while Zoe shoots the blue missiles to shut off the lasers.

The camera shifts again. Now, it’s time for a classic 2D chase. The Overseer will fire color-coded missiles that lock into place and release vertical laser beams, cutting off your path.

One player should focus on attacking the Overseer while the other shoots missiles of their matching color to clear the way so both of you can keep moving.

Once your duo reaches the curve, the camera shifts again, and you'll be running toward the screen. The Overseer will fire lasers from its eyes and drop rolling pipes to trip you up. To avoid damage, wait until a pipe gets close, then time your double jump carefully.

Avoid unnecessary movements that could throw off your rhythm, leading to unnecessary deaths and losing precious time.

When the Overseer slams its arms into the ground and starts emitting fire rings, you’re nearing the end of the chase. If you keep running, you’ll fall into the toxic green pool, so slow down and stay as far from the Overseer as possible. Jump to avoid the damage from its fire rings.

Soon, you'll spot a red cog on the left and a blue cog on the right. Shoot them to close the door on the Overseer. It will struggle to break free, causing debris to fall. Keep dodging the debris and shooting the cogs until the door shuts.

Just as you’re about to close the door completely, the Overseer will pry it open with its arms and start firing laser beams with its eyes. The beam won’t reach the entire arena, so just run to the edge of the screen to stay safe.

Dashing through the lasers won't help you avoid damage.

At this point, the Overseer can’t attack with its arms anymore, but it can still slam its head down, causing debris to fall. Keep dodging and shooting the cogs. Eventually, the door will fully close, severing the Overseer’s head from its body. And that’s it. You’ve defeated the Overseer in Split Fiction and are now ready for your next adventure.
