The Court of Oryx is back in Destiny 2 but with a twist. Now called the Court of Blades, this activity throws Guardians against a gauntlet of Lucent Hive enemies in a time-sensitive environment. Crush as many Lucent Ghosts as you can to claim seasonal rewards and more.
As with The Nether, this activity has a host of randomized elements and roguelite buffs to help you overcome the Hive. Defeat enemies to get Rune energy, purchase some strong buffs, and use your newfound power to prove the Sword Logic to the Hive. This guide will briefly go over how the activity works, how to access Rune buffs, and give a brief rundown of this activity's rewards.
Court of Blades is a boss rush activity where you must eliminate as many Lucent Hive as possible within the allotted time. The more bosses your fireteam manages to kill, the more rewards you'll receive at the end of the activity. Unlike The Nether , this mode does have regenerating health and a more traditional mission structure, similar to past seasonal activities.
If you've played Court of Oryx in the original Destiny, it's a similar cadence here. The bosses you'll fight will have damage mitigation in place of straight damage immunity. You can choose to either burn the boss' HP with a high DPS loadout or opt to complete encounter mechanics, which will then drop the boss' damage resistance for a short time. Encounters get harder as you progress, so plan your loadouts accordingly.
Difficulty Variants
Court of Blades has two difficulty options: Standard and Expert. The Expert version has no matchmaking, Champions, Banes, and Overcharge enabled.
The Court of Blades is broken up into two phases: preparation and boss encounters. Preparation is how you'll start. Clear out the derelict Court or Oryx, then stand in the circular icons near the middle of the court to activate the portal. But before you do, take a look around the area. You'll notice two kneeling Thrall statues with their hands aflame. Each flame lists an augmentation, a modifier for the next encounter.
Augmentations range from damage modifiers to added mechanics like Hive Swords. Encounters will typically have two augmentations you'll need to account for. These can't be changed and seem to rotate per encounter. There aren't locked loadouts in this activity, so you might want to swap loadouts if certain augmentations prove challenging for your build to handle.
Once you enter the portal itself, the real combat encounter will start. You'll need to defeat the Lucent Hive boss as quickly as possible and crush their Ghost. Two will usually spawn per room, with the second spawning shortly after you slay the initial boss. These enemies will have immunity shields over their health bar, although they aren't fully immune to damage; they just have an immense amount of damage resistance .
To strip the shield, you'll need to complete that encounter's mechanic. This could be shooting the boss while under a correct symbol or using Hive Swords to peel away their armor. If your DPS is incredibly high, you can opt to ignore these mechanics entirely, although that'll prove challenging on greater difficulties.
Enemies might scale throughout the activity, but so do you. Defeating enemies in this activity will grant Rune progress, which you can redeem in the Court of Oryx for roguelike buffs. The pool of buffs is similar to what you've seen in The Nether. Walk up to the statues in the hall preceding the court to purchase your buffs.
Rune buffs are tiered, ranging from T1-T3. Purchasing a tier under your maximum will still consume your rune—for example, buying a T1 buff with a T3 Rune will consume your T3 Rune outright—so be careful about which buffs you grab.
Once the timer hits zero, your fireteam will return to the Dreadnaught to claim your rewards. Reward payouts are determined by your total bosses slain that run, similar to Bonfire Bash during Solstice. You'll want to aim for ten or more boss kills to maximize your rewards, which should be doable for most fireteams if you bring a good DPS weapon like The Queenbreaker
.
The end-of-match chest respects your Tome of Want runes as well, so you can target-farm for certain weapons, armor, or upgrade materials by playing this activity. Since Court of Blades is tied to Act 2 of Heresy, this activity also drops a few new weapons from the Heresy seasonal pool.
