Ubisoft Lays Off 185 Workers, Shuts Down Leamington Studio

Ubisoft is laying off employees in multiple European studios, totaling 185 people. Among them, Ubisoft Leamington Studio will be completely closed.

The majority of the layoffs (about 100 people) affected two teams in the UK - Leamington and Reflections Studios. The rest of the layoffs are distributed in Ubisoft Dusseldorf and Ubisoft Stockholm studios. The company called it a “target restructuring” and said it was intended to focus on key projects and cut costs.

Ubisoft said the company is "deeply grateful" to the affected employees and will help them through the transition period. A few employees at Leamington Studios will be allowed to convert to remote contracts, but most will be fired.

This is the latest example of the wave of layoffs in the gaming industry. As of 2025, we have seen Freejam, Splash Damage and Jar of Sparks studios close. Swedish company Enad Global 7 (EG7) has also decided to "step down" Toadman Interactive, laying off 69 employees, and another 38 people from Piranha Games studio.

It seems that game developers will face another difficult year.
