Avowed Playable Race Guide and Information
Choosing a race in Avowed might seem like a big deal, but it won’t affect your stats, combat abilities, or how well you can swing a sword. Instead, it’s all about appearance, lore, and how NPCs react to you. You won’t get special powers for being an Elf, and Humans don’t have some hidden strength bonus. The biggest impact? A few unique dialogue options and, if you’re playing as a Human, better hairstyle choices.
With only two playable races—Human and Elf—this decision mostly comes down to personal preference. Do you want to be the shorter, long-lived Elf who looks wise beyond their years? Or would you rather be the taller, practical Human who gets more hair options? Either way, your godlike status means people will be staring at you for reasons far beyond your race.
Every Playable Race in Avowed
Your options are Human and Elf—the two dominant races of the Aedyran Empire, which, for lore reasons, are the only ones playable. This means no cat-people, no lizard-folk, and no ancient dwarven mysteries—just regular humanoids with different lifespans and hair options.
The good news? Your choice won’t affect gameplay, stats, or how hard you can punch something. The bad news? It mostly just affects how people react to you and what kind of hair you can have.
Elf
You can only play as a Wood Elf (sorry, Pale Elf fans).
Elves are shorter, live a long time, and tend to look gracefully smug about it.
The Aedyran Empire is full of Elves, so no one will find your presence strange.
You might get some unique Elf-only dialogue—probably something about forests, mysticism, or how much better your reflexes are than a Human’s.
Human
The most common race across Eora, because of course they are.
Slightly taller and more robust than Elves, though they also have one of the shortest lifespans of any "civilized" race.
Humans have more customization options, especially when it comes to hair. If you care about getting the best variety of styles, this is your race.
You may get Human-specific dialogue, usually involving practicality, ambition, or something vaguely self-important.
Wait, What About Godlike?
Now, before you start thinking that the race choice is too boring, the game throws in a twist—every player character in Avowed is also a Godlike.
A Godlike is someone who has been blessed (or maybe cursed?) by a deity. This usually means they’ve got weird growths, glowing features, or other divine oddities attached to their body. It also means people will stare, comment on your appearance, and occasionally treat you like a walking prophecy.
You can customize these Godlike features in character creation or turn them off entirely (visually, anyway—NPCs will still act like you’re sprouting glowing antlers even if you can’t see them).
Are There Any Actual Differences Between Humans & Elves?
Not really.
No stat differences. Elves don’t get a Dexterity boost, and Humans don’t hit harder.
No special abilities. No racial perks, buffs, or secret Elf magic.
Just dialogue and aesthetics. Some NPCs react differently, and you might get a unique race-tagged dialogue option every now and then.
In short, it’s all about how you want to look and what kind of worldbuilding flavor you enjoy. If you want the best hair options, pick Human. If you want to be the ancient, wise type, go Elf. If you wanted to play a Lizard Wizard… sorry, but maybe next game.
