While lectures are often part of paid classes within a small business, they're surprisingly versatile. Sims can participate in or host lectures without any Simoleon exchange, provided they possess sufficient skill.

Hosting a Class:

To host a class, you must first establish a small business (a $750 investment) and create a public area on a residential lot zoned for small businesses. You'll need a whiteboard and enough skill-related objects (easels, sketchpads, pottery wheels, etc.) for at least three Sims to participate in the chosen hobby. Your Sim must have a level five or higher skill to teach a class. Simply click the whiteboard and select "Start Class." The class fee increases with each skill level above five.

Attending a Class:

As a customer, click a whiteboard and select "Ask To Start Class." Attending significantly accelerates skill development, although there's a fee. However, lectures and mentoring within the class are free—remember to ask the instructor for mentoring via the social menu.

Class Objectives:

Both instructors and students have objectives: Instructors lecture, mentor, demonstrate, and interact; students listen, request mentoring, practice, and socialize. Completing these objectives provides skill boosts.

Lectures are free and can be hosted anywhere with a whiteboard. Click the whiteboard and select "Start Lecture." Only skills at level five or higher are selectable. You can target a specific Sim, useful for focused tutoring. Any Sim can host a lecture from any available whiteboard, even outside their own business.

Classes are exclusively for small business owners (or authorized employees) and always involve a fee, scaling with the instructor's skill level. Lectures are free for both hosting and attending.

Attending Free Lectures:

Free lectures are common at hobby meetups (check neighborhood noticeboards for notifications). You can also attend free lectures during classes at venues like Terra-Potta. Some small business owners offer free lectures as customer incentives, but be aware of hourly charges at those businesses.
