The Ministry of Culture of Morocco launched the "Electronic Game Producer" project, aiming to train 40 young Moroccan game developers.
The project was carried out in collaboration with the French Embassy, and the launching ceremony was held at the International University of Rabat. The project originated from an agreement reached during French President Macron's visit to Mozambique last year.
The nine-month training program (from now until October 3) will help young people master video game development and management skills, help Morocco develop the game industry and become a leader in the field.
Create opportunities for Moroccan youth
Culture Minister Mohamed Medy Benside said the project demonstrates the potential for Morocco to create opportunities in collaboration with France. He pointed out that the electronic game industry is full of vitality and has broad employment prospects.
Benside believes that the project can retain young talents because video games allow people to create stories based on their own culture and imagination. He believes that Morocco can build a strong and high-quality video game industry to compete with countries around the world.
Agnes Onlucian, a relevant member of the French Embassy, congratulated the project on its launch and pointed out that it was the result of months of hard work between Morocco and France.
She added that video games combine technology, creativity and culture and create jobs for youth.
Karen Huberal, head of ISART Digital, said Morocco has great potential to become a leader in video games, not only in Africa but globally.
A booming industry
Last May, Morocco and France signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in the creative industry, focusing on the field of electronic games. Minister Benside said that cooperation with the French Embassy will help the development of the Moroccan gaming industry.
According to German statistics firm Statista, the Moroccan video game market is expected to grow at a rate of 9.39% per year between 2024 and 2027. Total sales are expected to reach US$227.3 million in 2024 and US$297.5 million by 2027.
By 2027, Morocco will have about 8.4 million gamers, with the share of gamers reaching 21.2%.
