Artifacts in Stalcraft are items that boost your stats, and upgrading them makes these boosts even better. Follow these steps to upgrade your artifacts:
Artifact: The one you want to upgrade.
Energy: Needed for the upgrade. You can get energy by breaking down extra artifacts or unstable batteries.
Catalyst (Optional): This helps make the upgrade more likely to work. You can trade for catalysts with certain materials like Glowing Sugar or Anomalous Dust.
Go to a base or safe zone and look for a Scientist NPC. They will help you upgrade your artifact.
Talk to the Scientist and pick the upgrade option.
Place your artifact, energy, and catalyst (if you have one) into the slots.
Confirm the upgrade:
If it works, the artifact gets a boost (+1).
If it fails, the catalyst is used up, but the next attempt will have a better chance of success.
Every 5 levels (+5, +10, +15), the artifact gets stronger and may unlock new powers.
Artifacts have a freshness level:
Blue: High charge, works well.
Red: Medium charge, less effective.
Gray: Low charge, not very useful.
Fresh artifacts are stronger but cause more radiation. Recharging them keeps them useful. You can recharge artifacts by using proto-artifacts with the Scientist NPC for a small fee.
