Many consider the Hema to be one of Warframe's most infamous weapons, although not for the weapon itself. This gun is one of the hardest weapons to research for a larger clan, as it requires tens of thousands of Mutagen Samples to unlock. And considering how sparse Mutagen Samples are, many players never got a chance to fire this weapon.
That's changed with the Techrot Encore update, adding a Coda variant of the Hema that's far easier to earn. Today, we'll be going over everything that makes this blood-sucking burst weapon tick, showcasing all acquisition methods and some strong builds you can use in the Star Chart and beyond.
Getting your hands on the Hema will require you to join a clan. The weapon itself is replicated from the Infested Lab inside any clan dojo, although getting the weapon researched is another story. This weapon is infamous for its absurd research requirements, demanding a whopping 10,000 Mutagen Samples to research at base. It's easily the hardest weapon to research in the entire game.
If you're fortunate enough to have a clan with this weapon already researched, you simply need to pick up the blueprint from your dojo and meet the crafting requirements listed below to forge the weapon.
For those who can't afford to research the Hema, we recommend grabbing the Coda variant instead. Visit Eleanor's Coda shop in Hollvania to get your hands on the Coda Hema. You'll need to complete "The Hex" quest and defeat a Technocyte Coda to purchase this weapon, but it's significantly less tedious than getting the standard weapon. The Coda version is also superior in every way.
Rotating Shop
Eleanor's Coda weapons rotate every four days. If the Coda Hema isn't available, simply wait a few days to let her shop refresh. The Coda Hema is in rotation A.

The Hema is a burst-fire Infested rifle that uses blood as an ammo type. This weapon doesn't use ammo in a traditional sense. When you reload the Hema, it will drain a portion of your HP to fill its magazine. Fully reloading this weapon will drain roughly five percent of your maximum HP.
Fortunately, the Hema can also restore your HP by landing headshots. Precision hits with this weapon have five percent lifesteal, allowing you to use this weapon as a source of HP sustain. Beyond that, the Hema behaves like a traditional three-round burst primary. It deals intrinsic Viral damage, has high status chance, and a moderate fire rate.
The Coda variant of the Hema features significantly better critical stats, more base damage, and a progenitor bonus that adds an extra damage type to the weapon. If you're looking to min-max the Hema for endgame content, the Coda Hema is the version you'll want to use.
Building the Hema for endgame content is fairly straightforward if you know how damage scaling works in Warframe. Two builds can be found below for this weapon, one that requires minimal investment and a second, more endgame-focused configuration that'll require some Forma to recreate.

Hema |
This is a standard, zero Forma build for getting through the Star Chart and early endgame content. We use Serration to scale our base damage and Galvanized Chamber to aggressively scale our multishot. If you haven't reached Arbitrations yet, you can use Split Chamber in its place. Vile Acceleration is also a great pick for boosting the gun's otherwise slow fire rate.
Your remaining mod slots should focus on adding elemental damage to the weapon. The Hema deals Viral by default, so you have some strong options here that most weapons can't replicate. Corrosive is our suggestion, which you can make by combining Electricity and Toxin—Stormbringer and Malignant Force, in this case. Finish the build with Thermite Rounds for extra Heat damage.

Coda Hema |
The Coda variant of the Hema features significantly better critical stats, so we'll be focusing on critical hits for this build. Point Strike and Galvanized Scope significantly increase your critical hit chance. Vital Sense will then increase your critical damage, making the Hema much stronger in harder content.
Elemental damage is still important, although you have some added flexibility thanks to your progenitor bonus. We're using Stormbringer with Malignant Force to create Corrosive, then using Primed Cryo Rounds to gain a ton of Cold damage. You can opt to keep this as base Cold damage or turn it into Blast with a Heat progenitor bonus. Use Primary Deadhead to scale your base damage, then equip Terminal Velocity in your Exilus slot to make the Hema much easier to use at range.
