Netlify Background Functions
Unlock the power of serverless computing with Netlify Functions! Leveraging the capabilities of AWS Lambda, Netlify Functions simplify backend code execution without the overhead of managing servers. Simply place your scripts in a designated folder, and Netlify handles deployment upon each push to your main branch – complete with convenient logging.
Previously constrained to a 10-second execution limit, Netlify Functions now offer the full 15-minute execution time of AWS Lambda. This extended timeframe is unlocked by naming your function files with the -background
suffix (e.g., my-function-background.js
). Support for Go is also available.
This enhancement opens up a world of possibilities for longer-running tasks. Imagine automating complex processes such as:
- Web scraping using a headless browser.
- Image processing and PDF generation with email delivery.
- Data synchronization across multiple systems via batch API calls.
Essentially, any task exceeding the previous 10-second limit can now be efficiently handled using Netlify's enhanced background functions.
