Jetpack CRM

Automattic's acquisition of Zero BS CRM a year ago led to its integration into the Jetpack suite as Jetpack CRM. For those unfamiliar, CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management—a critical tool for many businesses. The software's importance is undeniable; CRMs are used by companies of all sizes to manage customer interactions, from lead generation to billing. While seemingly straightforward, CRMs often present a complex challenge.

Jetpack CRM offers a unique approach: a DIY CRM that adapts to your specific needs, rather than forcing your business to conform to its structure. This flexibility is a key selling point, allowing entrepreneurs to select only the necessary features.

A significant advantage is Jetpack CRM's seamless integration with existing WordPress setups. This minimizes the disruption and learning curve often associated with adopting new software. The ability to expand WordPress functionality organically, as successfully done with forums, newsletters, and eCommerce, makes this a compelling option.

Automattic's strategy is shrewd. Leveraging the inherent capabilities of WordPress—login systems, permissions, databases, and existing infrastructure—provides a powerful foundation for a CRM. This addresses a significant need for many WordPress users.

Jetpack CRM offers customizable admin integration. The "CRM Only" setting prioritizes CRM functionality within the WordPress admin, while the "Full" setting integrates it alongside other features.

The pricing model is à la carte, with paid plans offering additional features beyond the free plan. It's a standalone product, not bundled with other Jetpack components. Similar to WooCommerce, extensions are available for added functionality, such as Gravity Forms integration ($49) for lead form creation and MailChimp integration ($39) for lead list management.

As Mike Stott of WordPress Tavern notes, the WordPress ecosystem presents a significant opportunity for CRMs. The fact that thousands of users already employ WordPress for CRM functions highlights this potential.

It's important to note that Jetpack CRM is a separate product, not a core Jetpack feature. The plugin is installed as "zero-bs-crm," reflecting its origins. The author successfully installed and tested it, finding the on-site invoicing feature particularly appealing.
