Former UFC Veteran Retires After Persistent Weight Issues
Former UFC fighter, Zak Cummings, announces retirement to focus on family. He expressed gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support. Cummings' last UFC appearance was in October 2024, a unanimous decision loss to Chidi Njokuani, marked by a weight miss – his second in three fights and third overall with the UFC in three years. He also suffered consecutive losses, most recently to Mahamed Aly at a Shogun Fights event on March 29th.
Despite his recent setbacks, Cummings had moments of glory in the UFC, including a Performance Bonus for a submission victory over Wellington Turman in December 2023 and a knockout win over Niklas Stolze in July 2021. His career record stands at 23-11, with a 2-5 UFC record.
Other UFC News
According to Laerte Viana, a respected source in Brazilian MMA, rising heavyweight contender Tallison Teixeira will face Derrick Lewis on July 12th in Nashville. Teixeira, a standout from Dana White’s Contender Series Season 8, secured his ranking with a swift knockout victory over Justin Tafa in February, boosting his record to 8-0 and earning him the No. 14 spot. This fight against the No. 9 ranked Lewis presents a significant challenge and a potential springboard into the Top 10. Lewis was originally slated to fight Jhonata Diniz in November but withdrew due to illness.
Upcoming: UFC Vegas 105
UFC Vegas 105 features Lerone Murphy, a potential future title contender, facing veteran featherweight Josh Emmett. While Murphy is favored, Emmett, at 40, shows no signs of retirement, contrasting sharply with Cummings' decision.
