After all the excitement from this week's big reveal, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun at some retailers. Many are waiting until April 8, but there have been a handful of stores offering the console already for the launch price of $449.99 / £395.99 / AU$699.95 or $499.99 / £429.99 / AU$769.95 for the Mario Kart World bundle. Given that there will be incredible demand and retailers are taking many steps to dissuade scalpers, there are several hoops you have to jump through to secure a Nintendo Switch 2.

We've explained it for each specific retailer below, including the links to bookmark now and what you need to do to give yourself the best chance of getting a console so that it arrives on the June 5 release date.

Initially, we thought all Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders would start from April 8, as that was the date announced by the official My Nintendo Store.

Some retailers, such as Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop, have stuck to dates similar to this and allow you to register your interest now before they kick off pre-orders on April 9.

Others, especially in the UK, have gone live already, so you were able to pre-order a Switch 2 at places such as Argos, Very and Smyths Toys. Stock mostly sold out in a matter of minutes, though you may still find the odd console now and then.

The official My Nintendo Store is, naturally, one of the best places to bookmark and keep close by for Switch 2 pre-orders when they go live. You can register your interest now and priority will be given to Nintendo Switch Online members who have an active membership and a minimum of 50 hours playtime as of April 2.

No word on pre-orders here just yet, but as the biggest retailer of them all, Amazon is always one of our top places to check for stock. It will likely require you to register your interest or request and invite before the pre-order window opens on April 8, so check back in regularly to get your name on the list.

Old reliable Walmart has confirmed it will take Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders on April 9, with both the Switch 2 console and Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle listed as coming soon. As a bonus, the retailer also promises free delivery before 9am on launch day when you pre-order at Walmart.

Of course, video game retailer GameStop will be offering Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. Known to be a specialist in PC hardware and components, Newegg is still one to keep an eye on for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock as it has been involved with console gear in recent years. It's made no announcements yet, but we're keeping a close eye on it.

ShopTo was one of the first UK retailers to take registrations of interest for the Switch 2 and it's become one of the first to sell out its initial allocation of consoles. The EE Store is legitimately a great place to shop for gaming gear nowadays and often chips away at the price tag of even the latest gear. Let's hope Switch 2 pre-orders might be one of those things. All you can do is register your interest for now, but expect more info soon – including any spicy trade-in deals that could help you get your new console for less.

Nintendo Switch 2: at John Lewis

Always a popular one for home electronics and a pre-order at John Lewis might even get you that famous two-year warranty the department store is known for. It hasn't made any official announcements about its Switch 2 pre-order stock just yet, but we will follow it closely over the next few days. If it's anything like the PS5, the drops will be short and surprising – and usually in the early hours of the morning.

While the reward points Game used to offer would have been great for the Switch 2, the UK's specialist video game retailer will be a viable option for stock when pre-orders go live.
