Assassin's Creed Shadows - Yamazaki Castle Exploration Guide
To get the best gear in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you must complete various castles, forts, and fortresses by defeating their Samurai Daisho and claiming the loot they guard. Yamazaki Castle is home to five Samurai Daisho who guard the treasure, and you'll need to navigate the castle to defeat the Daisho silently.
Since slashing your way through these areas as Yasuke trivializes the layout and nearly guarantees he'll be made wanted due to the castle alerts, we'll be using Naoe to traverse this area. As such, we'll show you how to silently assassinate every Samurai Daisho in Yamazaki Castle so you can slip in and out without a trace.
Where Is Yamazaki Castle?
You'll find Yamazaki Castle in southern Yamashiro, south of Shoryuji, and southeast of Eagle's Nest.
The closest fast travel points outside the castle are the Shoryuji Tenshu to the north and the Oyamazaki Kakurega to the northeast.
How To Find & Assassinate The First Samurai Daisho
Enter the castle from the northeastern side, where there's an open yard with a large tower you can scale to enter the castle. Move slightly south and west into an elevated courtyard via some scaffolding.
This is the same area where you'll find a guard inside a house with a key.
Hide in the hay bale to take out the nearby guards, then turn your attention to the nearby Samurai Daisho. Get his attention with a Shinobi Bell or by briefly walking within view, then lure him to the bushes or hay bale to finish him off.
With the first Samurai Daisho defeated, make your way further west using the perimeter walls to the north.
How To Find & Assassinate The Second Samurai Daisho
Move past some farmland and into the northwestern courtyard, where you'll find the second Samurai Daisho waiting.
This courtyard is fairly busy, but luckily the Daisho will take up a post alongside a small house with a trapdoor in the roof.
Enter the house and quietly assassinate the sleeping enemy, then the workers in your path, before finishing off the second Samurai Daisho with a Shoji Door Assassination and retreating to the rooftops.
How To Find & Assassinate The Third Samurai Daisho
Move further west into the west central courtyard, and you'll see several guards roaming around, along with the third Samurai Daisho below.
The Daisho patrols around the courtyard for a bit, so watch his movements until he makes his way toward the southwestern corner of the castle.
When the Daisho goes up some stairs and stands next to another lone guard, that's your cue to double assassinate them, clearing the third Samurai Daisho.
How To Find & Assassinate The Fourth Samurai Daisho
Make your way to the far southern section of the castle toward the small garden with a pond and a bridge to find the fourth Samurai Daisho.
This Daisho is relatively secluded save for one other person he patrols with.
Make your way to the tree directly above them and wait for them to bump into each other so you can assassinate the Daisho, then take care of the worker who just watched it happen before they report what they saw.
How To Find & Assassinate The Fifth Samurai Daisho
With the fourth Daisho down, jump from the tree to the perimeter walls and make your way around to the far eastern side to the eastern courtyard of the castle, on the opposite side from where the Viewpoint is.
Here the fifth and final Samurai Daisho will be roaming the area, so wait for them to go up the stairs and approach the two guards overlooking the area.
The Samurai Daisho stops near the guards and then retraces his steps. While he's pausing next to the guards, prepare yourself on the edge of the wall you're watching from, near the top of the stairs.
When the Daisho returns along his path, you can assassinate him, then creep up and double-assassinate the two distracted guards to avoid any witnesses.
What Rewards Do You Get From Yamazaki Castle?
With all five Samurai Daisho in Yamazaki Castle found and defeated, you can turn your attention to finding and collecting the additional loot across the castle.
Side Loot
Yamazaki Castle is home to several chests and resources to smuggle, including a key that opens locked doors in the castle with some of the additional loot.
- Key: In the northern area of the castle, there's a courtyard slightly southwest with a guard lying down in a house. Take care of the guard, then claim the key on the table next to him and the chest against the wall.
- First Door: In the northern elevated courtyard where you killed the first Daisho and claimed the key, there's a small, locked shed with a chest, a resource bundle, and a pile of resources to smuggle.
- Second Door: In the western central courtyard near where you killed the second Samurai Daisho, there's a door guarded by two enemies.
Double assassinate them from above, then claim the chest, resource bundle, and large resource piles you can smuggle.
Next, you can claim some of the other reward chests scattered throughout.
-
Additional Loot:
- In the northeastern area where you enter the castle, there's a small area with a guard to the west. Take out the guard and claim the chest.
- In the northwestern courtyard, you'll find a chest inside a house next to a sleeping enemy, adjacent to the second Samurai Daisho.
- On the southwestern side of the central courtyard where you killed the third Daisho, there's a house with three guards and a chest.
- In the central area of Yamazaki castle on the eastern side where you killed the final Daisho, you'll find a chest on the platform near where you killed the two guards overlooking the area.
- In the western central courtyard inside the large Tenshu, you'll find a small chest to loot in the same room where you killed the two guards near the open windows.
- In the same Tenshu, there's another chest on the floor above this, and two more chests in the same room as the Legendary Chest.
With most of the side loot weighing down your pockets, you can finish the castle with the Legendary Chest and viewpoint at the top of the Tenshu.
Legendary Chest
With all five Daisho down, return to the Tenshu in the central area of the castle, along the west side near the top floor. Inside you'll receive:
- 3,000 exp
- An Engraving
- Yurei-Walker Hood Legendary Headgear for Naoe
With these rewards in hand, continue upward in the Tenshu for the final reward.
Synchronization Viewpoint
In the western courtyard toward the center of the area where you find the third Samurai Daisho is a large Tenshu. Make your way to the top and claim the synchronization viewpoint and the fast travel spot.
