What is the Royal Hound Minion?

The Royal Hound is a summonable pet minion in FFXIV. While it can be used in the Gold Saucer's Lord of Vermillion minigame, its primary function is simply to be a loyal, adorable companion. Lore suggests it descends from hounds bred by the Alexandrian royal family for hunting, making it a unique addition to any player's collection. It's described as seeking a "worthy master."

How to Obtain the Royal Hound

Obtaining the Royal Hound relies on a bit of luck. Unlike some minions purchased directly or earned through tokens, this one is a random drop from a chest at the end of the Underkeep dungeon (introduced in patch 7.2 of Dawntrail).

The Royal Hound is a rare drop from the final chest. Most players will receive standard ilevel 725 gear instead. If the minion does drop, players must participate in a Need/Greed roll, with the highest roll (out of 99) claiming the prize.

Fortunately, most dungeon minions are tradeable. If you're unlucky in the roll, you can still acquire the Royal Hound from the marketboard or through player trading. While currently expensive due to its recent release, its charm makes it a worthwhile investment for dog-loving adventurers.
