I've Reviewed Smartphones Since 2012, Here Are 5 of My Favorites
A phone reviewer's confession: we have our favorites. Over 13 years and 37 phone reviews (from the HTC Titan II in 2012 to the Samsung Galaxy S25), only a few truly stand out. Here are five I couldn't part with after completing my reviews:
- OnePlus Open:
Reviewed in October 2023, this book-style foldable surprised me. My initial skepticism about bulkiness proved unfounded; it felt like a regular phone when folded. The build quality and software optimizations for the large screen were impressive. Wireless charging would have made it perfect (a 9/10 otherwise).
- LG V30:
Remember LG phones? This October 2017 release, among ten LG phones I've reviewed, was exceptional. Unlike LG's often gimmicky offerings, the V30 boasted a clean design and top-notch performance. It became my daily driver for a considerable time.
- Google Pixel 7:
Reviewed in October 2022, the Pixel 7 (following the Pixel 3 and 5) marked a significant maturation for the series. It lacked the rough edges of its predecessors. The ultimate testament? I bought one after returning the review unit.
- HTC Windows Phone 8X:
(November 2012) My favorite Windows Phone. The vibrant blue, unique design, and soft-touch back were captivating. The Windows Phone OS looked fantastic on this device. Even today, I'd happily use it with updated internals.
- HTC 10:
My love for HTC started with the Droid Eris. The HTC 10 (2016) solidified that affection. Its simple, all-metal design, comfortable size, and fast fingerprint scanner were highlights. HTC Sense had also evolved significantly. It remained my daily driver for months, surpassed only by the LG V30.

Galaxy S25's Now Bar: Improved dynamic information display, but still needs to be improved Samsung's new One UI 7 update based on Android 15 brings a lot of features, and one of my favorites (although slightly rough) is the "Now Bar" on the Galaxy S25. This week, Samsung unveiled a much-needed update that improved the Now Bar's capabilities, which could be a warm-up ahead of the full release of One UI 7 next month. What is the Now Bar on Galaxy Phone? Unless you have a Galaxy S25 or are running a new One UI 7 beta, you may not know much about the Now Bar. It's similar to the movement of Apple

In 2025, satellite emergency alarms, text messages and even video calls to mobile phones will become a reality. Verizon recently announced a significant expansion of its satellite SMS function, confirming that some Android phones can now send text messages to any other user through satellites. Apple added satellite emergency alerts to iPhones in 2022 and gradually improved the service. Unfortunately, Android devices are slow to join, but now Verizon Wireless users can finally use this feature. In addition, we expect AT&T will launch a similar service soon, and T-Mobile's Starlink messaging service will be launched soon. Verizon works with Skylo,
