The Teletype Text Element Lives On... at Least on This Site
Remember the <tt></tt>
element? It's now deprecated, meaning it might still function in some browsers, but its future is uncertain. Its original purpose was simple: to render text in a monospace font, reminiscent of old teletype machines.
Dave Rupert recently used it humorously:
Per recent events: As you can see by this official transcript, Dave Rupert LLC has done nothing wrong…
Client: This is the greatest call I've ever been on. Dave Rupert LLC: Definitely and we didn't even do anything illegal or quid pro quo'y.

This reminded me of my own early days using <tt></tt>
extensively on CSS-Tricks. Back then, I believed it was the ideal way to format code, unaware of the <tt></tt>
element. Upon discovering <tt><code>
, I switched, but haven't updated every single article. The old <tt></tt>
tag persists in some posts.
This highlights how easily we can overlook better alternatives when starting out. It's a gentle reminder to be understanding of those early in their development journey, focusing on practical solutions with the knowledge they possess. We've all been there, and in some ways, we still are.
