The Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River has launched its Water Safety Challenge Coin Award Program. This new initiative will be highlighting and rewarding individuals, organizations and groups who are going the extra mile to promote safety on the river.

Those who assist in rescues, remove hazards or promote river safety in a way that has a significant impact will be nominated and awarded with an exclusive water safety challenge coin — a token traditionally used to celebrate excellence and dedication.

Superintendent Lindsey Kurnath said that the collective efforts are critical in maintaining the beauty and safety of the river for generations to come.

“At the National Park Service, we are incredibly grateful for the community members, organizations and groups who are actively working to keep the Upper Delaware River safe,” Kurnath said. “Their passion and commitment are truly inspiring, and we want to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude.”
