'The Last Of Us' Creator Lauds Abby Actor For Filming Shocking Scene: Organize & Share Photos After Real-Life Loss
The second season of HBO/Max's popular game adapter The Last of Us returns on April 13, two years after the premiere of the doomsday thriller. Pedro Pascal plays Joel, who in the first season, will smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a teenage girl who is immune to Cordyceps virus that causes the "infected" to turn into zombie creatures, from quarantine.
The plot summary of The Last of Us Season 2 is as follows: "Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie were involved in a conflict, a world that was more dangerous and unpredictable than when they left."
Note: The following spoilers of the second episode of the second season of The Last of Us.
Forbes: The Last of Us Season 2: Why does Abby look so familiar? By Tim Ramers In the finale of The Last of Us Season 1, Joel eliminates a group of organizations called Fireflies as they begin a fatal experimental surgery on Ellie in search of a cure. However, Abby — one of the surviving members of the Firefly — vows to take revenge after Joel killed her doctor’s father in the massacre.
In the second episode of Season 2 of The Last of Us, Abby beats Joel cruelly and then stabs his neck with a knife, killing him.
However, the filming of the scene coincided with shortly after Dever lost his mother to breast cancer in February 2024, and Marsin and director Mark Mylord knew the actor’s scene with Pascal would be difficult to shoot.
Forbes: The Last of Us Season 2: Why does Dina look so familiar? By Tim Ramers “The tragic thing is that Caitlyn lost her mother shortly before filming began. It’s very frustrating,” Massine, co-created with game developer Neil Druckman, told The Hollywood Reporter after episode two aired Sunday. "Mark and I were just thinking, 'How do we do this to her?'"
"Because when she comes back, that's the next scene, and the nature of our shooting plan makes it impossible for us to really switch orders," Marsin added. "Pedro has other obligations. Isabella is filming [James Gunn's upcoming] Superman. So we got stuck. I talked to Caitlyn and she said, 'It's OK, it's OK, I'll be fine, I won't be fine, but...'"
Craig Massine appreciates Caitlyn Dever's professionalism in the tragedy
Craig Massin, co-creator of The Last of Us, admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he really didn't know how Caitlyn Dever showed such "professional and dedication" when filming the key scenes of The Last of Us Season 2 episode with Pedro Pascal.
"She showed up, went straight into it, and finished shooting," Massin told the Hollywood Reporter. "There was a moment—I don't know what's going on—Catelyn looked at Joel. She turned her head and saw a golf club across the room, then turned back to look at him, a tear dripping from her eyes. 'How did you grasp this time?' [Massin thought of Dever] But they were immersed in the moment, they felt something, and it was their choice in that moment."
Forbes: The Last of Us Season 2: Why does Manny look so familiar? Author: Tim Ramers Episode 2 Joel's Death Ironically, in the previous scene, he saves Abby from being infected with Cordyceps.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Massin also refuted reports of Dever receiving death threats due to his overly craziest Pascal fans, knowing that Joel's death is possible because she killed him in the Last of Us 2 game.
Forbes: The Thunder Agents Early Tracking Prediction Box Office Slender Author: Tim Ramersmassin told the Hollywood Reporter: "That's nonsense. Thank God." "Everyone is good. Well, most are good."
The Last of Us Season 2 also stars Isabella Mercede as Dina, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Rutina Wesley as Maria, and Jeffrey White as Isaac. The new series for Season 2 of The Last of Us will be aired every Sunday until May 25.
