Google News automated publication pages to start in March

Google News is going fully automatic. Starting in March, Google will automatically generate all publication pages, ending manual customization options in Publisher Center. This follows an April 2024 announcement phasing out manual publication additions.

Google's Statement: Google states this transition streamlines their processes and improves the user experience. All manually created publication pages will be replaced by automatically generated ones, and Publisher Center will no longer display customization features for Google News pages or the Google News tile.

What Remains Unchanged: Content eligibility for Google News remains unaffected. Content adhering to Google's policies will still be considered. Google's automated selection process for Google News inclusion persists. Publishers will continue submitting logos via Publisher Center for Google News Showcase and Reader Revenue Manager.

Key Changes:

  • Custom sections from Google Publisher Center will disappear from Google News publisher pages.
  • Publisher Center will no longer allow logo and publication title customization.
  • Google News will default to site favicons for logos and site names for titles.

Impact on Publishers: The shift diminishes the value of Google Publisher Center for news publishers, who previously relied on it for control and maintenance of their Google News presence. While Google claims improved workflow and user experience, many publishers lament the loss of the previous, more hands-on approach.

As AI scraping surges, AI search traffic fails to follow: Report As AI scraping surges, AI search traffic fails to follow: Report Apr 12, 2025 am 11:12 AM

AI search engines contribute little to publishers' traffic, which in turn has intensified web crawling behavior. This is an important finding in the recent report of TollBit, a content monetization platform. Click-through rate comparison: The report shows that the average click-through rate of Google search is 8.63%. However, the click-through rate of AI search engines is only 0.74%, while the click-through rate of AI chatbots is even lower, only 0.33%. This means that AI search brings a 91% reduction in recommended traffic than traditional searches, while chatbots bring a 96% reduction in traffic. Important: This is bad news for publishers because it shows that AI search does not replace traditional search traffic. This trend is expected to continue as AI-generated answers replace direct access to the website. number
