CSS technology to implement line wrapping of content in pre tags

maybe yes Published on 2015-01-25 18:35

The PRE tag in HTML does not wrap by default , even if the word-wrap and word-break attributes are declared, they have no effect; the DIV tag can easily wrap lines without breaking the page. For this reason, many websites use DIV as a container when displaying code. The disadvantage of using DIV tags to load code is that there is too much redundant content. Line breaks, tabs, spaces, etc. all need to be converted. Naturally, the size of the source code is also much larger. If you must use the DIV tag, you can also use white-space to control the display style of the content in the DIV. This is also possible.

In my opinion, using the PRE tag as a code container in the source code is the first choice. Later, the front-end uses other JavaScript code highlighting plug-ins to beautify the rendering. That is another matter. The style of using CSS to wrap content in PRE is as follows, and the test found that the effect is pretty good.

<style>pre{ white-space: pre-wrap; /* css-3 */ white-space: -moz-pre-wrap; /* Mozilla, since 1999 */ white-space: -pre-wrap; /* Opera 4-6 */ white-space: -o-pre-wrap; /* Opera 7 */ word-wrap: break-word; /* Internet Explorer 5.5+ */ overflow: auto; word-break: break-all; word-wrap: break-word;}</style>
