Device Channels

Browsing websites on mobile devices is so common these days, SharePoint websites should be available on smartphones and other devices such as tablets Highly readable and easy to use on mobile devices.

In previous versions of SharePoint, SharePoint automatically generated a single default mobile view based on the existing website. The default mobile view was not easy to customize. Now, with device channels in SharePoint 2013, you can use different designs for different devices based on a single publishing site.

Create a website, create content once, and then the website and content can be mapped to different master pages, page layouts and style sheets for use on specific devices.

Restrictions:

This feature is only available on the publishing website.

Each site collection has 10 device channels.

Contains 150 rules per device channel.

SharePoint 2013 publishing sites are optimized for mobile development. You can use the Device Channels feature to define channels for one or more devices, giving you more precise control over how users experience your site.

You can specify an interactive master page for each channel, giving it a unique chrome (note: chrome doesn’t quite understand what it means). You can choose to include or exclude part of the page layout to preview the progress of the mobile channel design under development. Device Channel is Search Engine Optimized (SEO).

You can use them to change the appearance of existing pages to support mobile scenarios, and you can use channels to force specific renderings to appear on specific devices - force channels. This is useful when you define rendering output for specific mobile devices.

Mobile fallback device channel

If you are targeting all mobile devices, then you can insert the following string as "Device Inclusion Role":

$FALLBACKMOBILEUSERAGENTS;
Copy after login

Whether a device is recognized as a mobile device depends on the

HttpContext.Current.Request.Browser.IsMobileDevice
Copy after login

attribute being driven by the

.browser
Copy after login

file in your WEB application. For more information, see the MSDN article Browser Definition File Schema (browsers Element).

How to configure device channels

1. Open the design manager

2. Create a new device channel

3. Edit device channel

4. Save device channel

5. Specify parent Page

6. Website Master Page Settings

Device Channel Panel

Device Channel The panel is a new control that you can include in the page to control which channel outputs what content.

It is a container mapped to one or more channels: when one or more channels are activated when the page is rendered, all the contents of the device channel panel are rendered. This helps you decide when a specific channel contains specific content.

The author mentioned in the original article that there are still some bugs, but it is based on the preview version and may have been fixed now.

Mobile panel

After creating a device channel, you can also point to this channel through the mobile panel.

<Publishing:MobilePanel runat="server" IncludedChannels="iPad3"> <div>This content will only be shown on an iPad 3. Cool!</div> </Publishing:MobilePanel>
Copy after login
A property called "IncludeChannels" allows the user to specify which channels the panel points to. You can specify multiple channels (separated by commas). You can test how it looks by visiting the page with the query parameter ?DeviceChannel=deviceChannelAlias added. Such as http://domain.com/pages/default.aspx?DeviceChannel=iPad3.

Similarly, the author said it also has some bugs.
