MySQL database is cross-platform and can run not only on Windows, but also on operating systems such as UNIX, Linux and Mac OS

1. Let’s briefly talk about the MySQL version:

According to the type of operating system, it can be divided into: Windows version, UNIX version, Linux version and Mac OS version

According to different user groups, it can be divided into: Community Edition and Enterprise Edition. The Community Edition is completely free, and the Enterprise Edition is charged

According to the release order, it can be divided into: 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 5.4, 6.0 and other versions

According to the development status of MySQL, it is divided into: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Generally Available (GA) versions

Several versions:

Alpha: A version under development and may have added features or modifications

Beta: The development has been basically completed and is in the testing stage, but has not been fully tested

Gamma: A Beta version that has been released for a period of time and is more stable than Beta

Generally Available (GA): the most stable version, which can be used in software development

Example:

mysql-essential-6.0.11-alpha-win32.msi

essential: This version contains necessary parts of MySQL and does not include uncommon parts

6: Major version number

0: Release level

11: The version number at this level (here is the 11th version at level 0)

alpha: version under development

win32: version running on 32-bit Windows

msi: format of installation file

The following introduces the installation configuration of Mysql under common systems Windows and Linux

2. Install and configure MySQL on Windows

There are two installation packages for MySQL on Windows: graphical interface installation and noinstall (noinstall)

There are also two optional packages for graphical interface installation: Windows Essentials and Windows MSI Installer

As mentioned above, Windows Essentials only contains the necessary parts of MySQL and does not include uncommon parts

Windows MSI Installer is a package that includes both commonly used and uncommon packages

I use the Essentials package as an example to install:

1> Double-click mysql-5.1.72-winx64.msi

2> Accept the agreement, next

3> Select "Custom", next

4> Click "Change..."

5> Modify the MySQL installation path and click "OK"

6> next

7> Click "Install"

8> next

9> next

10> Keep "Configure the MySQL Server now" selected and click "Finish"

11> next

12> Select “Detailed Configuration”, next

Detailed Configuration: Detailed configuration. If the database is used as the server of the enterprise, then select this option. If you practice by yourself, you can select "Standard Configuration"

Standard Configuration: Standard configuration

13> Select "Server Machine", next

Default is "Developer Machine"

Developer Machine: develop test classes, consume less resources

Server Machine: Server type, occupying more resources

Dedicated MySQL Server Machine: Dedicated database server type, accounting for all available resources

14> Select "Transactional Database Only", next

Default is "Multifunctional Database"

Multifunctional Database: Universal

Transactional Database Only: Transaction processing type, suitable for transaction processing type application services such as web, with good support for InnoDB engine

Non-Transactional Database Only: Non-transactional, relatively simple, mainly used for monitoring and counting applications, with good support for the MyISAM engine

15> Select the path to store the InnoDB table space data file, the default is "Installation Path (installation path)", next

16> Set the number of concurrent connections, I chose the second "Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)"

Decision Support (DSS)/OLAP: supports 20 concurrent connections

Online Transaction Processing (OLTP): can support 500 concurrent connections

Manual Setting: Manually specify the number of concurrency, the default is 15

17> Whether to enable TCP/IP connection, enabled by default , set the MySQL port, the default is "3306", check Add the port to the firewall policy, whether to enable it Strict mode, if turned on, the database will filter the data more strictly and will not allow any grammatical and other errors, improving the accuracy of the data

18> Character set settings, I selected the third "Manual Selected Default Character Set/ Collation", selected the character set as "gbk", next

Standard Character Set: The default character set is Latin1, suitable for English and Western European languages

Best Support For Multilingualism: The default character set is UTF8

Manual Selected Default Character Set/ Collation: Manually select the character set, select gbk or gb2312. The difference between the two is: gbk font has a large capacity, including gb2312

19> Select whether to install mysql as a windows service , checked by default, Service Name sets the service name, the default is: MySQL, checked "Launch the MySQL Server automatically" and "Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH", next Launch the MySQL Server automatically: Whether to set the startup include Bin Directory in Windows PATH: Add the MySQL application directory to the PATH of the Windows system so that it can be launched directly in the DOS window Access MySQL without going to MySQL’s bin directory

20> Set the password for the MySQL super user root and whether to create an anonymous user, uncheck "Create An Anonymous Account", next

21> Click "Execute"

22> Click “Finish” to complete the installation

There are several common mistakes in the last step. For details, see:

Solving the problem of Cannot create windows service for mysql.error:0 when installing MySQL5.1

How to solve the problem of could not start the service mysql error:0 when MySQL is installed and reinstalled

The above is the entire content of the mysql installation and configuration method. I hope it will be helpful to everyone's learning, and I hope you will support me a lot.
