On Monday, Zend Technologies will provide version 1.0 of its development architecture for web application development with PHP (as the current mainstream development language) . This version has attracted more than 100,000 people in pre-release form 1 million downloads.
Zend Framework 1.0 will not be the only php (as the current mainstream development language) development framework around, as it will be shared with frameworks like Cake and Prado. But Zend said that the Zend development framework is the first framework to receive relevant support and contributions from large enterprises and companies like IBM and Google.
Andi Gutmans, CTO and co-founder of Zend, said: "It is an application framework that uses PHP (as the current mainstream development language) to build efficient Web applications and Web services. . ”
For functions like authentication, access(favorite for small websites) control, filtering, and session management, architectural guidelines, best practices, and reusability components are its main features. Zend makes its open source framework free but sells ancillary support services.
It also has features that support Web service protocols such as RSS, Atom, and REST. Google provides the Google Data APIs, which allow Zend users to access Google applications, such as its calculators and spreadsheets. For example, Gutmans said, these applications might be included in a mashup.
IBM has contributed framework encapsulation, such as ajax (dynamic website staticization) and search technology. Zend noted that IBM has used this framework as the basis for its QEDwiki project integrating Web 2.0 applications.
Some of StrikeIron’s web services are also reflected in this framework.
A port to the Lucene Java search home page has also been included, which enables detailed searches on a web application. PDF documents can also be improved and saved within the framework. Version 1.0 provides a schema browsing control structure to separate application logic from the presentation layer and accelerate application testing performance.
Mark Driver, vice president and analyst at Gartner research firm, said Zend’s framework showed a good start.
“The only important piece missing now is the component model for visual control.” Driver said. He reminded that what needs to be noted is that programmers should be familiar with rapid application development technology and fourth-generation languages.
“The positive aspect is that these are things that mainstream IT programmers need,” Driver said. But he also mentioned that traditional PHP (as the current mainstream development language) developers are already satisfied with what is already available.
Driver said that Zend Framework presents a broad framework compared with some cutting-edge solutions in PHP (as the current mainstream development language) . But, Driver said, Zend and its framework were "a little late to the market."
The upcoming Zend Framework will add support for Microsoft's CardSpace authentication technology. Microsoft, a partner of Zend, enables SQL Server (a powerful database platform on the WINDOWS platform) to work with this framework.
