Why do you needDebugger?
Many PHP programmers use echo, print_r(), var_dump(), printf(), etc. for debugging. In fact, these are enough for programmers with rich development experience. They can often perform debugging during program execution. In , by outputting the value of a specific variable, you can determine whether the program is executed correctly, and even the efficiency can be seen (of course, you may also need to use some time functions). So why do we need a special debugger to monitor the operation of our program? The answer to this question might as well be left to be revealed later.
What is Xdebug?
Xdebug is an open source PHP program debugger (i.e. a Debug tool) that can be used to track, debug and analyze the running status of PHP programs. The latest version of Xdebug is xdebug 2.0.0beta6, which supports PHP4/PHP5.
Official site: www.Xdebug.org
How to install Xdebug?
Take PHP5.1.4, Windows platform as an example (for other PHP versions, please refer to the official website documentation for other platforms):
1. Log in to www.xdebug.org, there is a Windows modules on the right side of the homepage, select PHP5.1.2+, download the php_xdebug-5.1.2-2.0.0beta6.dll file;
2. Place the downloaded php_xdebug-5.1.2-2.0.0beta6.dll into the C:php5ext directory and rename it to php_xdebug.dll;
3. Edit php.ini and add the following lines:
extension=php_xdebug.dll
[Xdebug]
xdebug.profiler_enable=on
xdebug.trace_output_dir="I:Projectsxdebug"
xdebug.profiler_output_dir="I:Projectsxdebug"
The following directory "I:Projectsxdebug" is the directory where you want to place the data files output by Xdebug and can be set freely.
4. Restart Apache;
5. Write a test.php with the content <?php phpinfo(); ?>. If xdebug is seen in the output content, the installation and configuration are successful.

Now we can start using the powerful features of Xdebug!
