There are four ways to get the file mime type in PHP, such as using the mime_content_type() function to determine the mime type, Fileinfo to get the file MIME type (finfo_open), etc. Friends in need can refer to it.

What is a MIME type? It is a type that sets a file with a certain extension to be opened by an application. When the file with the extension is accessed, the browser will automatically use the specified application to open it. It is mostly used to specify some client-defined file names and some media file opening methods. Reference link: php file format (mime type) comparison table . 1. The mime_content_type() function determines and obtains the mime type. mime_content_type returns the MIME type of the specified file, usage:

echo mime_content_type ( 'php.gif' ) . "\n" ;
echo mime_content_type ( 'test.php' );
Copy after login

Output: image/gif text/plain

But PHP 5.3.0 has deprecated this function. If you still want to use this function, you can configure php to enable the magic_mime extension.

2. php Fileinfo gets the file MIME type (finfo_open)

PHP officially recommends that the alternative function to mime_content_type() is the Fileinfo function. PHP 5.3.0+ already supports the Fileinfo function (fileinfo support-enabled) by default. You can use finfo_open() to determine the file MIME type without any configuration. Usage:

$finfo = finfo_open(FILEINFO_MIME);
$mimetype = finfo_file($finfo, $filename);
finfo_close($finfo);
Copy after login

3. image_type_to_mime_type() gets the image MIME type

If you need to determine that the MIME type of the file is only an image file, you can first use the exif_imagetype() function to obtain the image type constant, and then use the image_type_to_mime_type() function to convert the image type constant into the MIME type of the image file.

Note: You need to configure and open php_mbstring.dll (required for Windows) and extension=php_exif.dll in php.ini.

4. PHP upload file to obtain MIME type If you use php to upload files and detect the MIME type of the uploaded file, you can use the global variable $_FILES['uploadfile']['type'] to have the client's browser detect and obtain the file MIME type.
