I am developing a small website by myself, which involves user account management. After successful registration, or if I want to retrieve my password, I would like to be notified by email. I have seen the smtp protocol before, and I have also registered a 126 email account. I can send it through the smtp protocol of email service providers such as 126, 163, and sina. If it is an online website, can this solution still be used, or is there any problem with this solution? Is it easy to get into the trash? Or can't send it out at all? Of course you can purchase related services, but since the site itself is non-commercial and non-profit, you don’t want to spend too much money on this. Please tell me, are there any other solutions?

My personal non-commercial website has similar needs to yours. The email service has been running for a year without any problems.
1. The server uses the smtp service of aliyun's mail system (the mail service that comes with the purchase of the server) to send emails.
2. Try to avoid some commercial keywords in the content of the email. Avoid being regarded as advertisements and being pulled into the trash.

If you have your own domain name, you can consider setting up noreply@yousite.com for Alibaba Cloud's email system and QQ corporate mailbox to send emails to users, but not too frequently.

It is recommended that you install the sendmail tool. Of course, you can also install the same software such as postfix, and then you can forward emails as long as your server can connect to the external network. My company's emails are sent using a python implementation written by myself.

You can also use nodejs to make an API interface

You can use QQ business email, NetEase business email and the like are the best. As long as you don’t do it too frequently, there is usually no problem.

If this doesn’t work (for example, some domain name suffixes are not supported), you can build one by yourself through postfix + dovecot. However, you will encounter some new concepts when building it for the first time. You can search for a lot of tutorials

Then if you know how to docker, you can use the image tomav/docker-mailserver to create your own mail service. I have three or four domain name mailboxes all opened on the containers created by this image. It takes about 10 minutes to know how to docker. It can be used in ten minutes
