vps - ubuntu server php uploaded file successfully but the folder is empty

Just installed LAMP on Linode. Everything is fine with mysql and php files. But there is a strange problem. After uploading pictures to my website, the abc.com/images folder is empty. There is no problem in uploading images before the server is moved; including local testing. Does anyone have any advice?
