Problem phenomenon

When ECS Windows is created by default, the size of the system disk is 40 GB. Customers can specify a larger space for the system disk when purchasing, or they can refer to the official documentation to expand the system disk later. .

Customers sometimes find that the space of the C drive is constantly decreasing. There are two situations:

1. There are a large number of logs with names starting with cbspersistent in the system disk directory C:\windows\logs\cbs. files and cab files

2. New cab_xxxx_x is constantly generated under the system disk directory C:\windows\temp and takes up a lot of disk space

Cause of the problem

For C:\windows\logs\cbs, there are a large number of text files with names starting with cbspersistent and suffixed by log, which record the installation## of Windows. #PatchUpdate, log information of roles and services. After the log file reaches a certain size, the system will automatically package the file into a cab package. The files with names similar to cab_xxxx_x in the C:\windows\temp directory are temporary files generated during packaging.

In the above picture, you can see that there is a 2.1 GB CbsPersistent_20151211070234 file in C:\windows\logs\cbs with the

timestamp of 2015/12/9. This file is a log file recorded when installing Windows patches when creating an image. The cab_xxxx_x with the timestamp of 2015/12/11 under C:\windows\temp is a temporary file generated when Windows packages the file as a CBS file.

If the operating system created by the customer based on this image has small memory and no virtual memory is configured, packaging may fail due to lack of virtual memory, resulting in too many temporary files. You can view the 2004

event in the system log.
