How to create a network share via Samba on Linux

Samba is an SMB/CIFS network protocol used to provide file and print services to Microsoft clients. Samba can also be used as part of an Active Directory domain. Samba uses TCP/IP protocol for communication.

Step 1: Install Samba

Now create an account with Authenticated system account to access the samba share.

$ useradd marc
$ passwd marc

Step 3: Configure the shared directory

$ mkdir / opt / shared

Add the following content to the Samba configuration file /etc/samba/smb.conf at the bottom.

Change IP using samba server IP address. If prompted for authentication. Authorize the usage account created in step 2.
