How to set tab stops in word

(1) Three elements of tab stops.

The three elements of a tab stop include tab stop position, tab stop alignment, and tab stop leading character.

When setting a new tab stop format, the operation is mainly based on these three elements:

※ Tab stop position.

The tab stop position is used to determine the starting position of the table content. For example, when the tab stop position is determined to be 10.5 cm, the first character entered at the tab stop is from Start at 10.5 cm on the ruler, and then proceed to the right according to the specified alignment.

※ Alignment.

The alignment format of tab stops is exactly the same as the alignment format of paragraphs, except for the addition of decimal point alignment and vertical line alignment. After selecting the decimal point alignment, you can ensure that the entered value is aligned based on the decimal point; when selecting the vertical line alignment, a vertical line will be displayed at the tab stop, and no data can be entered here.

※ Leading character.

The leading character is the auxiliary symbol of the tab stop, used to fill the blank interval before the tab stop.

For example, in the table of contents of books, leading characters are often used to index specific title positions. There are 4 styles of leading characters, which are solid line, thick dashed line, thin dashed line and dotted line.

(2) Inclusiveness of tab stops.

Tab stops are an organic combination of symbols and paragraph indentation format. Therefore, any object that can be inserted in an ordinary paragraph can be inserted into a tab stop.

(3) Two methods of setting tab stops.

Tab stops can be set in two different ways. One is to execute the "Tab Stop (T)" command of the "Format" menu and open the "Tab Stop" dialog box. Complete the settings of the three elements in the box. The other is to use the ruler to set the position and alignment of the tab stop, but if you want to set the leading character of the tab stop, you can only do it through the first way. On the left side of the ruler, there is an unobtrusive gadget, which is a variable tab character that sets the tab stop alignment.

The tab character in the default state remains left-aligned "└". Click the tab character to change its shape in sequence, including centered tab character "┴ ", right-aligned tab character" ┘", decimal-aligned tab character "" and vertical line-aligned tab character "│". If you click a scale value on the ruler, a tab character will be generated at the clicked point.

(4) Apply tab stops in paragraphs.

The key to applying tab stops is how to quickly position the cursor to the specified tab stop and then enter the content in the table. Word2000 stipulates that you can quickly move the cursor to the next tab stop by pressing the "Tab" key. The method of entering various data at the tab stop is exactly the same as a regular paragraph.
