How to use ftp in linux
How to use ftp in Linux
Step 1: Establish FTP connection
To connect to the FTP server, enter ftp in the command line followed by a space followed by the domain name 'domain.com' or IP address of the FTP server
For example:
ftp domain.com ftp 192.168.0.1 ftp user@ftpdomain.com
Steps 2: Log in using username and password
Most FTP servers are password protected, so these FTP servers will ask for 'username' and 'password'.
If you are connected to what is called an anonymous FTP server (LCTT translation: that is, an FTP server that does not require you to have real user information to use is called an anonymous FTP server), you can try anonymous as the username and use an empty password :
Name: anonymous Password:
After that, the terminal will return the following information:
230 Login successful. Remote system type is UNIX. Using binary mode to transfer files. ftp>
Login successful.
Step 3: Directory Operations
FTP commands can list, move and create folders just like we do locally on our computer. ls can print a directory list, cd can change directories, and mkdir can create folders.
Use security settings to list directories
ftp> ls 服务器将返回: 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV.150 Here comes the directory listing.directory list........226 Directory send OK.打印目录
Change directory:
To change directory, you can enter:
ftp> cd directory
The server will return:
250 Directory succesfully changed.
Step 4: Use FTP to download files
Before downloading a file, we first need to use the lcd command to set the local acceptance directory location.
lcd /home/user/yourdirectoryname
If you do not specify the download directory, the file will be downloaded to the working directory when you log in to FTP.
Now, we can use the command get to download the file, for example:
get file
The file will be saved in the directory location set using the lcd command.
The server returns the message:
local: file remote: file 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for file (xxx bytes). 226 File send OK. XXX bytes received in x.xx secs (x.xxx MB/s).
Use FTP to download files
You can use wildcards and mget commands to download multiple files. For example, in the following example I plan to download all files ending with .xls.
mget *.xls
Step 5: Use FTP to upload files
After completing the FTP connection, FTP can also upload files
Use the put command to upload files:
put file
When the file is no longer in the current local directory, you can use the absolute path:
put /path/file
Similarly, you can upload multiple files:
mput *.xls
Step 6: Close FTP connection
After completing the FTP work, the connection needs to be closed for security reasons. There are three commands to close the connection:
bye exit quit
Any command can disconnect the FTP server and return:
221 Goodbye
If you need more help, you can use help after using the ftp command to connect to the server. Get more help.
