Where are the linux log files?

#Log files are record files or collections of files specifically used to record system operation events. Log files are usually saved in the /var/log directory.

The following are several important log files:

/var/log/messages: Includes overall system information, including logs during system startup.

/var/log/syslog: It is different from the /etc/log/messages log file. It only records warning information, which is often information about system problems.

/var/log/user.log: Log that records user information of all levels.

/var/log/auth.log: Contains system authorization information, including user login and permission mechanism used, etc.

Log files are divided into event logs and message logs:

Event log

The event log records events that occur during the execution of the system in order to provide activities that can be used to understand the system and diagnostic problem tracking. They are critical for understanding the activity of complex systems, especially in applications with low user interaction.

It can also be used to combine log file entries from multiple sources. This approach, combined with statistical analysis, can produce correlations between seemingly unrelated events on different servers. Other solutions employ network-wide queries and reporting.

Message Log

Internet Relay Chat (IRC), Instant Messaging (IM) programs, peer-to-peer file sharing clients with chat capabilities, and multiplayer games (especially MMORPGs) often have The ability to automatically record (i.e. save) text communications.

Message logs are almost universal plain text files, but IM and VoIP clients (which support text chat, such as Skype) can save them in HTML files or in custom formats for easier reading and encryption.
