Today we solemnly announce that the official version of completely rewritten CodeIgniter 4.0 has been released! Many thanks to everyone who contributed code, wrote documentation or submitted Issues. When you look at most of the PHP frameworks on the market, you will find that most of them have some form of commercial support, but in the case of the CodeIgniter framework, it is ordinary open source contributors who help the development of the framework. , and continued to persevere even when faced with some challenges.
Looking back, my first code submission was on August 26, 2015. At the time, I was just volunteering some code out of interest, and I never thought I would become the lead developer on this project, but due to time issues with other team members at the time, I took on what seemed like an easy position. For the first three years or so, I spent my free time writing code and trying to fulfill my commitment. There have been several times over the years where I've wanted to stop and develop something more likely to be completed, such as any of the four main ideas I wanted to explore, and you guys have kept me going.
Over the past year and a half, many of you have stepped up to help push this project to the finish line. To this day, this wouldn’t be possible without everyone’s help.
Unfortunately, all is not rosy as we recently lost our wonderful program leader James Perry to lung cancer. His outstanding contributions made this version 4.0 release possible. Today is his birthday, happy birthday James!
All repositories should be updated in Packagist. If you notice any issues, please let me know and we will resolve them as soon as possible.
Thank you all again! This is a project that is 100% driven by open source contributors and we have successfully reached the finish line today, but it is far from over, we can go further, but now we have a solid foundation for the future.
