The first stable version in 2022: Chrome 97 is here!

On January 5, Beijing time (later on January 4, US time), Google officially released the Chrome 97 stable version of the browser, and has begun rolling it out through the browser’s automatic update system.

This version of Chrome 97 brings better tools for deleting stored website data, more consistent web applications, and more granular zoom control on the mobile version of the browser, and of course it also brings controversial keymaps API.

Delete all data stored by a website

##Chrome 97 makes some changes to privacy and security settings. You can now delete all data stored by a website. Previously, you could only choose to delete all website data or delete individual cookies. This new setting can be found in Settings > Security & Privacy > Site Settings > View permissions and data stored across sites.

Web apps are more like native apps

Remember each site’s scaling settings on mobile

The desktop Chrome browser can already remember your zoom settings for specific sites Chrome will keep this setting every time you visit the site. Now in Chrome 97 a feature flag has been added to do this on mobile.

This feature can be found in chrome:flags#enable-accessibility-page-zoom. Once enabled, you can adjust the zoom by clicking the lock icon in the address bar. Chrome will remember this setting the next time you visit this site.

Provide better HDR support for CSS

Google started testing a CSS feature in Chrome 94 to detect whether the device screen supports HDR content. This feature is now live in Chrome 97. This enables web developers to decide whether to enable HDR content based on the user's display device, whereas previously it was all or nothing, impacting the user experience.
