What is the network cable?

Network cables, generally made of metal or glass, can be used to transmit information within the network. There are three types of commonly used network cables: twisted pair, coaxial cable, and fiber optic cable (fiber optic). Twisted pair is a data transmission line composed of many pairs of wires. It is characterized by its low price, so it is widely used. Twisted pair cable is used to connect to RJ45 crystal head. There are two types: STP and UTP. UTP is commonly used.

Network cables are cables that connect computers to computers, and computers to other network devices. Commonly used network cables include twisted pairs, coaxial cables and optical fibers.

It is relatively simple to use coaxial cables for network connection. You only need to connect each computer or network device in series, but it is more troublesome to maintain. If something goes wrong somewhere, the entire network may be paralyzed. . To add or remove a computer from the network, you must stop the network and wait until the computer is added or removed before you can continue to use it. At the same time, this method must adopt a bus topology, which is rarely used now.

Twisted pair wire is composed of four pairs of twisted copper wires covered with insulating material and wrapped in an insulating sheath. It can reduce interference caused by clutter and suppress signal attenuation within the cable. If twisted pairs are used, we can easily add or remove a computer from the network without interrupting the work of the network. Network maintenance is also relatively simple. If a network cable fails somewhere, it will only affect the twisted pair connection. computers or devices will not cause network paralysis. However, using twisted pair requires adding a hub or switch to the network, which increases the cost of the network.

Standards of network cables

When making network cables, the following two production standards are included according to actual needs:

EIA/TIA 568A standard

Sorting from left to right: white-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, brown.

EIA/TIA 568B standard

Order from left: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown.

In 2002, the American Communications Industry Association TIA officially adopted the Category 6 cabling standard as early as 2002 (ANSI/TIA/EIA568B.2-1-2002), which was also approved by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The standard number is ISO11801-2002.

In 2003, TIA began to study copper cables that can support 10 Gigabit rate transmission, and promulgated performance parameter standards for Category 6A cabling products in 2008. It also provided standards for 6A and 7 horizontal twisted pair cables. 10 Gigabit Ethernet lays the foundation.
