What is the computer network communication system?
Data communication system.
Data communication systems refer to systems that connect remote data terminal equipment and computer systems through data circuits to realize data transmission, exchange, storage and processing. .
Data communication system is a combination of computer and communication. In the early 1950s, the United States established the Semi-Automatic Ground Air Defense (SAGE) system, which connected long-range radar and other equipment with computers, creating an early data communications system.
Subsequently, data communication systems developed rapidly and experienced the evolution of centralized systems, distributed systems and computer networks. The centralized data communication system is composed of a central computer and multiple remote data terminal devices. The central computer performs centralized processing. System management and control are simple, but the economy and reliability are poor.
With the decentralized setting of central computers and the emergence of pre-processors, concentrators and intelligent terminals, a distributed data communication system characterized by decentralized communication processing functions and data processing functions has emerged. In the late 1960s, a computer network emerged in which multiple independent computer systems were interconnected for the purpose of resource sharing.
Composition
A typical data communication system mainly consists of three parts: a central computer system, data terminal equipment (DTE), and data circuits, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Basic composition of data communication system
1. The central computer system consists of a communication controller (or preprocessor), a host computer and its peripherals It consists of equipment that has the function of processing data information input from data terminal equipment and outputting the processing results to the corresponding data terminal equipment.
2. Data terminal equipment consists of data input equipment (data source that generates data), data output equipment (data sink that receives data) and transmission controller.
3. A data circuit consists of a transmission channel (transmission line) and data circuit terminating equipment (DCE) at both ends. The transmission channel can be a dedicated channel or a switched channel, or an analog channel or a digital channel. When using an analog channel to transmit data signals, the original data signal sent needs to undergo "digital → analog" conversion, that is, modulation; when receiving, the opposite "analog → digital" conversion, that is, demodulation, needs to be performed. The device that implements modulation and demodulation is called a modem. An analog transmission channel plus a modem forms a data circuit, and the modem is the DCE on the analog channel. When digital channels are used to transmit data signals, a modem is not required, but corresponding interface equipment is required to realize functions such as signal pattern and level conversion and line characteristic equalization. A digital transmission channel plus such interface equipment constitutes a data circuit. Such interface equipment is the DCE on the digital channel, usually called a data service unit.
