Mar 29, 2023 pm 03:15 PM

Golang (also known as Go) is an open source statically typed programming language developed by Google. The main features of Golang are fast, safe and efficient. It has become one of the popular programming languages, attracting more and more developers and companies to use it. This article will introduce how to install Golang to help you get started easily.

1. Check the number of bits of the operating system

Before starting the installation, we need to know whether our operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit. In the Windows system, open "My Computer", right-click "Properties", and the operating system number will be displayed in the pop-up window. In Linux or Mac system, open the terminal and enter the following command:

uname -a

If the returned information contains "x86_64", it means the system is 64-bit; if it is only "i686" Or "i386", it means it is 32-bit.

2. Download the Golang installation file

Before installing Golang, we need to visit Golang’s official website (https://golang.org/dl/) to download the correct binary file. Select the appropriate version according to your system type, for example:

GO download address:

https://golang.org/dl/

Note: We recommend downloading the latest version of Golang.

3. Install Golang

Windows system installation

1. Open the downloaded binary file, select custom installation, and then select the installation directory. We recommend selecting the default directory "C :\Go".

2. Select the required components. By default, all components are installed. If a component is not required, you can uncheck it.

3. Click the "Install" button to start the installation process. When completed, a "Go" folder will be added to the desktop containing some useful example programs.

Linux system installation

1. Open the terminal and switch to the root user.

2. Unzip the downloaded binary file. For example, to install Golang in the "/usr/local" directory, you can use the following command:

tar -C /usr/local -xzf go1.x.x.linux-amd64.tar.gz

Note: "go1.x.x" here should be replaced with your version number.

3. Add GOROOT and GOPATH environment variables in the terminal. Open the ~/.bashrc file and add the following at the end:

export GOROOT=/usr/local/go
export GOPATH=$HOME/go
export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT /bin:$GOPATH/bin

4. Save and exit the ~/.bashrc file, then run the following command in the terminal for the changes to take effect:

source ~/.bashrc

Mac system installation

1. Open the terminal and switch to the root user.

2. Unzip the downloaded binary file. For example, to install Golang in the "/usr/local" directory, you can use the following command:

tar -C /usr/local -xzf go1.x.x.darwin-amd64.tar.gz

Note: "go1.x.x" here should be replaced with your version number.

3. Add GOROOT and GOPATH environment variables in the terminal. Open the ~/.bash_profile file and add the following at the end:

export GOROOT=/usr/local/go
export GOPATH=$HOME/go
export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT /bin:$GOPATH/bin

4. Save and exit the ~/.bash_profile file, then run the following command in the terminal for the changes to take effect:

source ~/.bash_profile

4. Check whether Golang is installed successfully

Enter the following command in the terminal:

go version

If it is completed successfully and the version information is displayed, the installation is successful. .

5. Start programming

Now that you have successfully installed Golang, you can start writing code. You can start a simple application in the terminal, for example:

package main

import "fmt"

func main() {

fmt.Println("Hello World")
Copy after login

}

Save the file as "hello.go" and run the following command in the terminal:

go run hello.go

If everything goes well, "Hello World" will be displayed ".
