How to implement POST request using PHP

Apr 06, 2023 am 09:15 AM

As web applications become more and more common, many developers begin to implement related server-side code using PHP. Among them, HTTP request is one of the important components of web applications. PHP supports multiple types of HTTP requests, of which POST request is the most commonly used one. Therefore, this article will introduce how to implement the POST request method using PHP.

POST request is a request method defined in the HTTP protocol. Compared with GET requests, POST requests can send more data to the server, and the data sent will not be exposed in the URL. The data of the POST request is packaged in the HTTP request body and can be accessed through the HTTP POST method in PHP.

Step One: Create a POST Request Instance
In PHP, you can use the cURL library to create HTTP requests. To perform a POST request, use the curl_init() function to create a cURL request object and specify the requested URL. Here is a sample code that uses cURL to create a POST request:

$url = 'http://www.example.com/api';
$data = array('name' => 'Bob', 'age' => 40);

$ch = curl_init($url);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, http_build_query($data));
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);

$response = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
Copy after login

In this code snippet, we define a variable called "$url" that contains the URL to which we want to send the POST request. We also define an associative array called "$data" that contains the data we want to send. We create a cURL request object using the curl_init() function. We then set options for that object via the curl_setopt() function. We set the "CURLOPT_POST" option to true to indicate to the server that the request is a POST request. We also use the "CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS" option to include the data in the request body and the "http_build_query" function to convert the data into a URL-encoded string. Finally, we set the "CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER" option to true so that the cURL method will output the response into a variable instead of printing it to the page. Finally, we use curl_exec() function to execute the request and close the request after execution.

Step 2: Send a POST request and receive the response

In the above code snippet, we use the curl_exec() function to execute the request and output the response into the $response variable. If the response is normal, it can be processed. Here is a sample code that handles the response:

if(!empty($response)) {
    $responseData = json_decode($response, true);
    if(!empty($responseData)) {
        echo '请求成功!返回的数据是:' . $responseData['message'];
    }
}
Copy after login

In this code snippet, we first decode the returned JSON data into an associative array using the "json_decode()" function. Then, we check if the array is empty. If it's not empty, we can access the returned data and print it to the page.

To sum up, the above are the two basic steps to implement POST request using PHP. By understanding the process of creating POST requests in PHP using the cURL library, you can write server-side code that allows your web application to communicate with other servers and process the returned data.
