How to set URL length limit in php (two methods)

Apr 11, 2023 pm 03:09 PM

When using PHP to develop websites, the use of URLs is often involved. Passing parameters in URLs has become an indispensable part of Web development. However, sometimes the length of the parameters we need to pass may exceed the default length limit. In this case, we need to manually set the URL length limit.

In PHP, the default URL length limit is 2048 characters. To set a URL length limit, we can do it through an .ini file or in code using the function set_time_limit().

Method 1: Through the .ini file

We can set the URL length limit by modifying the php.ini file. The specific operation is:

  1. In the PHP installation directory, find the php.ini file.
  2. Open the php.ini file with a text editor.
  3. Find the line "max_input_vars", if not, add it yourself.
  4. Set "max_input_vars" to the desired URL length limit, for example, set to 5000.
  5. Save the php.ini file and restart the server.

After setting the URL length limit, we can pass longer parameters in the URL.

Method 2: Through the function set_time_limit()

In addition to setting in the .ini file, we can also use the function set_time_limit() in the code to set the URL length limit. This function increases the runtime limit by the specified number of seconds.

For example, we can use the following code to set the URL length limit to 5000 characters:

set_time_limit(5000);
Copy after login

It should be noted that using this function will not increase the time limit for PHP running, only Add limit on URL length.

Summary

The above are two methods of setting the PHP URL length limit. In actual development, we usually set URL length limits based on actual needs to avoid program errors caused by too long URLs.
