With the advancement of new generation information technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things, and the epidemic prevention and control forcing enterprises to transform, accelerating the process of digitalization and automation has become the only way for enterprises to seek long-term development.
Since RPA was introduced to China in 2017, it has emerged among many digital transformation tools due to its flexibility, efficiency, and scalability. It has attracted the attention of many CTOs and CIOs and is currently used in finance, manufacturing, and logistics. , retail and other industries have successfully implemented applications.
Recently, UiPath and IDC released the "2022 Asia-Pacific (Including Japan) Automation Survey", which focused on three key issues in the development of automation in the Asia-Pacific region: The automation maturity of enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region (including Japan) how? How can automation be an accelerator for exponential business growth? How do companies need to advance their automation thinking and scale to create new business outcomes?
Development Trend of Enterprise Automation in China
This survey was commissioned by RPA vendor UiPath and was conducted by IDC, covering the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Australia, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. Including 350 companies (all with more than 1,000 employees). Among them, feedback from the Chinese market shows four major trends:
First, China’s automation investment will accelerate in the next three years.
The survey shows that 67% of Chinese companies increased their automation spending between 2020 and 2021; 37% of Chinese companies said that the CIO or CTO is leading enterprise-wide automation projects; 43% of Chinese companies Enterprises will automate ESG and sustainability use cases in the future, a significant increase from 13% in 2022.
Regarding the main motivations for deploying automation solutions, 77% of enterprises tend to improve operational efficiency and save costs; 67% aim to streamline processes; 57% aim to support remote and hybrid office models. In addition, 43% of companies are aiming to ensure business continuity and adaptability to face the challenges of future uncertainty.
Second, the important shift to intelligent process automation (IPA).
The so-called IPA refers to the integration of AI and RPA, using AI to expand RPA’s picking capabilities, performance and stability, and realize intelligent process automation, which can greatly improve the singleness and limitations of RPA. Therefore, it is also regarded as the future development trend of RPA.
Research shows that IPA software revenue in the Asia-Pacific region (including Japan) is expected to grow from US$2.3 billion in 2020 to US$5.5 billion in 2025. This highlights the need and potential to move beyond RPA to achieve comprehensive end-to-end process automation. It is worth noting that 93% of Chinese companies will look beyond RPA and pay more attention to intelligent automation.
Third, skilled automation talents and implementation partners are the key to success.
Zou Zuoji, Vice President and Managing Director of UiPath North Asia, said, "Chinese companies clearly understand the need to achieve enterprise-wide automation to improve productivity, save costs and enhance customer experience. However, The reality is that most enterprises face the challenge of scaling automation across businesses."
Zou Zuoji, Vice President and Managing Director of UiPath North Asia
The challenges mainly lie in three points: First, there are many internal information systems in the enterprise, leading to the formation of data islands. How to improve end-to-end efficiency is a top priority; second, there is a shortage of automation talent reserves, and how to cultivate employees' automation capabilities is also a key issue; third, which processes are more effective to start with automation transformation, and how to choose automation adaptation scenarios also need to be detailed Consider.
In this context, 83% of Chinese enterprises said that skilled automation talents and strong implementation partner support are very important when choosing automation solutions; 57% of enterprises said that they look forward to modern and End-to-end enterprise solutions with modular architecture; 47% of enterprises said automation solutions must have a common, enterprise-wide data aggregation, federation, exchange and management layer that connects silos.
Fourth, civilian-led development and training have become health needs for future work.
Looking to 2022, Chinese companies are gradually allowing employees in non-IT fields to participate in automation work. Among them, 57% of Chinese companies already have non-IT employees involved in automation work; and 30% of companies plan to involve their non-IT employees.
In addition, regarding the key elements for successfully implementing automation solutions, 33% of Chinese companies surveyed believe that it is clear guidance on best practices; 23% believe that it is cooperation with the IT department, and 20% believe that it is cooperation with the IT department. is an easy-to-use tool.
At the media communication meeting, Zou Zuoji put forward six suggestions for enterprise automation development planning:
l Based on long-term planning, a top-down overall strategy
l Cultivation Enterprise Talent and Skills
l Establish a CoE to popularize automation and AI capabilities
l Embed governance and security from the beginning of the project
l Accelerate cloud applications and partner programs to Achieve success and scale
l Evaluate regularly to ensure success
"To upgrade their automation plans, companies must elevate their automation mindset and leverage a holistic strategy supported by executives, supplemented by strong employee upskilling and training programs, to achieve large-scale automation in China."
At the same time , Zou Zuoji also emphasized that enterprises should pay attention to the dynamic evolution of automation development. "Every automation plan needs to be evaluated regularly, and may also need to be changed regularly, because the enterprise is not a fixed-point job, but is constantly evolving, so the automated process cannot be considered completed after it is completed. It must be evaluated regularly to see how it works. Does it bring returns to the enterprise? What are the KPIs of the returns? Does it match the long-term goals set by the CTO and CIO?"
