How to convert associative array into two-dimensional array in php

Apr 12, 2023 pm 01:55 PM

Associative array in PHP is a data structure used to store key-value pairs. When multiple associative arrays need to be combined to form a two-dimensional array, these associative arrays need to be converted into two-dimensional arrays. Here is a way to convert an associative array into a two-dimensional array.

First, suppose we have two associative arrays:

$array1 = array('key1' => 'value1', 'key2' => 'value2');
$array2 = array('key1' => 'value3', 'key2' => 'value4');
Copy after login

We merge these two associative arrays together to form an array containing two elements. Each element of this array is an associative array. The code is as follows:

$combinedArray = array($array1, $array2);
Copy after login

Now, we have an array containing two associative arrays. However, this is not the 2D array we want. We need to convert this array into a 2D array where each element is an array of two values. The code is as follows:

$resultArray = array();
foreach ($combinedArray as $value) {
    $tempArray = array();
    foreach ($value as $key => $data) {
        $tempArray[] = $data;
    }
    $resultArray[] = $tempArray;
}
Copy after login

In this code, we first declare an empty array named $resultArray. We then use a foreach loop to iterate over the array $combinedArray containing the two associative arrays. In the inner foreach loop, we iterate over the key-value pairs of each associative array. For each key-value pair, we store its value in a temporary array called $tempArray and then add this temporary array to $resultArray. Ultimately, $resultArray is a two-dimensional array where each element is an array of two values.

This method can handle different numbers of associative arrays by modifying the inner foreach loop. No matter how many associative arrays there are, as long as their keys are the same, this method can merge them into a two-dimensional array.

It should be noted that this method can only handle associative arrays without duplicate keys. If two associative arrays have the same key, only the value of the last associative array is saved. If you need to process an associative array with duplicate keys, you can use the array_merge_recursive function, which merges values with the same key into an array.
