Windows 11's print key may soon have a different function
When you press the print key on Windows 11, Windows copies a screenshot of your desktop to the operating system's desktop. This option has long been the default in Windows, but it may soon be coming to an end.
Microsoft introduced a change in recent Windows 11 Insider builds that is changing the mapping of the print key. Activating this key will launch the operating system's snipping tool, no longer creating and copying desktop screenshots to the clipboard. The tool is ready and prompts the user to draw a rectangle on the screen to capture a screenshot.
Microsoft announced the change when it released Windows 11 build 22624.1546 to the public. There, Microsoft notes that pressing the Print screen key will now open the Snipping Tool by default on the operating system.
The company added that users can revert to previous mappings and that if they modified the settings themselves, changes will not be made. This should include any user-installed screenshot tools, such as PicPick, which have taken over the mapping of the print key on the device.
Here's the full message from Microsoft about the change: "Pressing the Print Screen key will now open the Snipping Tool by default. This setting can be turned off via Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard. If you've modified this setting yourself before, Your preferences will be preserved”
The Snipping Tool is the default screen capture tool on Windows 11 devices. It supports multiple screenshot modes, including full-screen and area screenshots, and supports screen recording capabilities as well as recent features.
By default, any screenshot captured using the Snipping Tool is automatically copied to the clipboard. Windows 11 users can turn off this feature.
All in all, it may still add a step to the screenshot-taking process for some users. However, there is an option to disable changes in settings.

Windows 11 users can restore the original functions in the following ways:

- Navigate to Accessibility > Keyboard.
