The new AI tool is expected to be rolled out to trusted testers this month.
In order to steal Microsoft’s limelight before it launches GPT-4, Google has announced a new set of AI tools coming to Google Workspace. The first wave of these tools will roll out to Gmail and Docs.
Today, Johanna Volich Wright, vice president of product for Google Workspace, announced in a blog post that the company is integrating a series of new AI tools into Workspace. The move should intensify the artificial intelligence race between it and rival Microsoft. Wright said the tools will appear in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet and Chat. However, Wright noted that before generative AI experiences are released to the public, they will first be rolled out to testers throughout the year.
Here's a list of Workspace features Google says it will roll out in the future:
Docs and Gmail will be the first Google products to receive new artificial intelligence tools. For these applications, AI will help generate, summarize, and brainstorm text. This is demonstrated in the Gif below, which shows a user leveraging the "Write it for me" prompt to create a job description. Google says users simply enter the topic they want to write about and the AI takes it from there.
#After the draft is generated, users will be able to refine and edit the text and receive additional suggestions. In addition to creating drafts, there is a feature that allows users to adjust the tone and composition of their writing. In the second demo, there appear to be six options to choose from, including Formal, Elaborate, Shorten, Communique, I'm Feeling Lucky (informal), and Write a Draft.
If you're wondering when these features will roll out, Wright said the company plans to roll them out this month through its trusted beta program. It will start in the United States and eventually expand to other countries. There's no mention of when these features are expected to be made public.
