Why is it inaccurate to get the current time in php

Apr 13, 2023 am 09:06 AM

In development, the need to obtain the current time is often used. In PHP, we can use the date() function to get the current time. However, in practical applications, we will find that sometimes the time obtained is not accurate, so why is this?

First of all, we need to make it clear that PHP's acquisition of the current time depends on the server's system time. If the server's system time is inaccurate, the time obtained by PHP will also be inaccurate.

Secondly, PHP's acquisition of the current time may also be affected by PHP's configuration file. In the PHP configuration file php.ini, there is a configuration item called date.timezone, which is used to set the time zone. If the time zone is configured incorrectly, the time obtained will also be inaccurate.

In addition, some PHP frameworks will also set the time zone, such as the Yii framework. There is a configuration item called timeZone in the config/main.php file to set the time zone. If the setting is incorrect , then it will also affect the accuracy of obtaining the current time.

In response to the above problems, we can take the following solutions to solve them:

1. Set the server time and time zone. If we have permission to operate the server's system environment, then we can manually set the server's time and time zone to the correct values, so as to avoid the problem of inaccurate time acquisition due to inaccurate system time.

2. Modify the PHP configuration file. We can set the date.timezone value in php.ini to the value of our time zone, so that PHP will obtain the current time according to the set time zone.

3. Write code to handle it. We can use some PHP class libraries to process time zones, such as the DateTime class, which can be used to generate a timestamp of the current time and set the corresponding time zone, so as to ensure that the time obtained is accurate.

Finally, we need to note that in the time acquisition requirements, the necessary accuracy and error limits need to be clarified. If high-precision time acquisition is required, microsecond level time functions can be used. Such as microtime() function to obtain more accurate time.
