How to add array member variables using PHP

Apr 13, 2023 am 09:21 AM

PHP is a widely used server-side scripting language for web development. Among them, array is one of the very common data types in PHP. In some cases, we need to add member variables to an array. This article will introduce how to use PHP to add array member variables.

First, we need to understand how arrays are defined in PHP. In PHP, arrays can be defined using the array() function or brackets []. For example, the following code defines an array containing three elements:

$myArray = array('apple', 'banana', 'pear');
或
$myArray = ['apple', 'banana', 'pear'];
Copy after login

Next, we will add a member variable to this array.

Method 1: Use square brackets

We can use square brackets [] to add array member variables. The specific method is to add square brackets after the array name, fill in the key name of the member variable to be added within the square brackets, and put the value corresponding to the key name after the equal sign. For example:

$myArray['orange'] = 'orange';
Copy after login

In this example, we insert a new member variable 'orange' into the array $myArray. The key name of the new member variable is 'orange' and the key value is 'orange'.

If we want to add member variables in batches, we can use a foreach loop. For example, the following code will add three member variables to the array $myArray:

$newArray = ['grape', 'peach', 'watermelon'];
foreach ($newArray as $value) {
    $myArray[] = $value;
}
Copy after login

In this example, we first define an array $newArray containing three elements, and then use a foreach loop to traverse the array , and put each element traversed into the array $myArray.

Method 2: Use array_push() function

In addition to using square brackets, we can also use PHP's built-in array_push() function to add array member variables. The function of array_push() is to add one or more elements to the end of the array. The specific method is to add brackets after the function name, and fill in the name of the array to be added and the content of the elements to be added within the brackets. For example:

$myArray = array('apple', 'banana', 'pear');
array_push($myArray, 'orange', 'grape');
Copy after login

In this example, we use the array_push() function to add two new member variables 'orange' and 'grape' to the array $myArray.

In addition to the array_push() function, there is a similar function array_unshift(), which is used to add elements to the beginning of the array.

Summary

In this article, we learned two ways to add member variables to a PHP array: using square brackets and using the array_push() function. No matter which method you use, you need to follow the basic definition rules of PHP arrays. I hope this article can help readers better understand the characteristics of arrays in PHP.
