Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business vs. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10: Which one to buy?

The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business and Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptops are powered by Intel’s new 12th generation Alder Lake processors. These laptops use vPro-compatible chips, which include support for an advanced set of security and productivity features for businesses. Samsung is using new 12th-generation Alder Lake P-series processors for the Galaxy Book 2 Business, while you can also get U-series processors from the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10. However, it's worth pointing out that the Galaxy Book 2 can buy the business with the MX570 discrete graphics chip, while the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 doesn't have such an option.

Alder Lake P-series and U-series chips are both said to perform better than Intel's previous generation processors, so it's safe to say these new laptops will outperform existing options on the market. If you didn't know, these new processors use Intel's new Hybrid Core architecture to offer a combination of performance (P) and efficiency (E) cores. Thanks to this new architecture, the new processor offers a good balance between performance and efficiency. However, with a default TDP rating of 28W, the P-series Alder Lake chips are bound to be more powerful than the lower-power 15W or 9W U-series chips. We recommend you check out our Intel Alder Lake P-Series vs U-Series processor comparison to see how they stack up against each other.

Having a 12th generation processor also means support for new memory types, including LPDDR5 RAM. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptop comes with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 memory, which is expected to be faster than LPDDR4 memory modules. Samsung appears to be using DDR4 memory in the Book 2 Business, but it does double the capacity, up to 64GB. As for storage, we're looking at up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD inside the ThinkPad, while the Galaxy Book 2 Business can only be configured with up to 1TB of storage. Although it's not explicitly mentioned, we think it's safe to assume Samsung is using the new Gen 4 PCIe SSD in the Galaxy Book 2 business laptop as well.

Talking about battery life, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business comes with a 51.5Whr battery, while the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptop has a slightly larger 57Whr battery. We don't expect there to be a significant difference in battery life between each laptop, but we can't confirm that without giving these laptops a try. However, ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptops powered by Alder Lake U-series processors are expected to have longer battery life than laptops powered by P-series processors.

As far as display options go, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 is the clear winner in this case. We say this because Lenovo offers a ton of different options to choose from. While all display options are physically 14 inches in size, you get different resolutions, as well as touch and non-touch options. In fact, some panels are brighter and more color accurate than others, so you have to choose one that suits your needs. A 14-inch monitor doesn't necessarily require a super-sharp, high-resolution panel, but having an OLED panel means you get true blacks, vibrant colors, and high contrast. Samsung, on the other hand, says the Galaxy Book 2 business laptop features a 14-inch Full HD panel with anti-glare coating. This appears to be the only display option on all Galaxy Book 2 Business variants,

Another thing to note about the ThinkPad X1 Carbon display is that it comes with a 16:10 ’s aspect ratio panel, while the Galaxy Book 2 Business comes with a 16:9 display. The 16:10 aspect ratio, for those who don't know, provides more vertical screen real estate, allowing you to read more of the web page or work document you're editing. While this taller aspect ratio may not be the best for media consumption, there's no denying it's suitable for productivity. Notably, some variants of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 also come with Lenovo’s Privacy Protection feature, which protects your data privacy by using oblique lighting technology to reduce display visibility from side corners. The Galaxy Book 2 Business doesn't have such privacy features, so keep that in mind.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business vs. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10: Which one to buy?

Talking about webcam options, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business has a 1080p infrared camera on all models. Lenovo will let you choose between a 720p or 1080p webcam. IR is also an optional feature on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptop. Luckily, both laptops come with fingerprint scanners, so you don't have to rely on the infrared camera for Windows Hello authentication. However, if you're looking at the base versions of these two laptops, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business will give you a higher-quality webcam.

Design & Ports

If you want a lighter and thinner laptop, we recommend choosing the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptop instead of the Galaxy Book 2 Business. While both laptops have a thinner profile, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 is better in this regard. It starts at 1.12kg, while the Galaxy Book 2 Business starts at 1.51kg. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is also thinner than the Galaxy Book 2 Business. Having said that, the overall form factor of these laptops is pretty much the same.

As for aesthetics, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 comes in Jet Black with an optional carbon fiber woven cover. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10's signature design makes other ThinkPad laptops look very familiar. The Galaxy Book 2 Business, on the other hand, appears to be available only in Graphite color. It’s worth mentioning that other notebooks in the Galaxy Book 2 series are available in more colors.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business vs. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10: Which one to buy?

#Going to ports, we think both the Galaxy Book 2 Business and ThinkPad X1 Carbon are good options. Galaxy Book 2 Business comes with a Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB Type-C port, two USB Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, an RJ45 Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm combo jack. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 comes with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.0b port, a nano-SIM slot, and a 3.5mm combo jack. It’s worth mentioning that in some regions, including Europe and India, the Galaxy Book 2 Business comes with an LTE-enabled SIM card slot. However, you won't get the LTE connectivity option for the Book 2 Business in the US.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon essentially swaps an RJ45 Ethernet port with a nano-SIM slot to add 5G sub-6 Cat2o and 4G LTE Cat16 wireless connectivity options. The Nano-SIM slot works on all ThinkPad X1 Carbon models in all regions, so if you're buying these laptops in the US, this is probably something you can buy. In addition to these connectivity options, you also get standard support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 on both laptops.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business vs. Lenovo ThinkPad x1 Carbon: Which one should you buy?

The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 are two of the best 14-inch business laptops on the market right now. It's a close race, and we think both laptops have a big advantage. Both laptops use Intel's new 12th generation Alder Lake mobile processors, so performance should be on par with other laptops, unless you're comparing P-series processors to U-series processors. However, if you consider the option of adding the MX570 discrete graphics card, the Galaxy Book 2 business laptop seems to have an advantage over the Lenovo ThinkPad.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 is arguably the better monitor due to the sheer number of options to choose from. Not only do you get the option of a high-resolution panel, you also get touchscreen and OLED options, both of which are missing from the Galaxy Book 2 Business. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 also has a slightly larger battery, although we don't think it makes a significant difference. In addition to WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 options, we also like how the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 supports 4G LTE and 5G connectivity. Finally, it's also worth pointing out that the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 starts at $1,639 for the base model, while the Galaxy Book 2 Business starts at $1,850.
