How to quickly build a website in Laravel (tutorial)

Apr 13, 2023 pm 06:12 PM

The Laravel framework is a modern PHP framework that provides many useful features, including routing, ORM, template engine, etc. In this article, I will briefly introduce how to use the Laravel framework to quickly and easily create a complete website.

  1. Installation and Configuration

Before we begin, we need to make sure that PHP and Composer are installed. In addition, the Laravel framework needs to be installed. The latest Laravel version can be downloaded from the official website. The easiest way to install Laravel is to use Composer. Enter the following command on the command line:

composer global require "laravel/installer"
Copy after login

After the installation is complete, we need to create a new Laravel project. On the command line, go into the directory where we want to create the project and enter the following command:

laravel new myproject
Copy after login

Laravel will create a new project named myproject in that directory. After that, we need to do some basic configuration. In the .env file, we need to modify the database-related configuration items to the values we need.

  1. Creating models and database migrations

In Laravel, models are used to represent data tables. We need to create a model and corresponding database migration so that we can easily access the database using the ORM. Enter the following command on the command line:

php artisan make:model Post -m
Copy after login

This will create a model named Post in the app directory, as well as a corresponding database migration. Open the migration file in the database/migrations directory, and you can see how to build the database table structure. You need to modify this file according to your needs. For example:

public function up()
{
    Schema::create('posts', function (Blueprint $table) {
        $table->increments('id');
        $table->string('title');
        $table->text('content');
        $table->timestamps();
    });
}
Copy after login

After completing the database migration, we need to execute the migration command to create a new data table. Enter the following command in the command line:

php artisan migrate
Copy after login
  1. Create controller and view

Now we need to create the controller and view so that we can display the data from the Post model . Create a controller using the following command:

php artisan make:controller PostController
Copy after login

This will create a controller named PostController in the app/Http/Controllers directory. You can use the following code to implement the list display and detail display methods in the controller:

public function index()
{
    $posts = Post::all();

    return view('posts.index', ['posts' => $posts]);
}

public function show($id)
{
    $post = Post::find($id);

    return view('posts.show', ['post' => $post]);
}
Copy after login

The easiest way to create a view is to use Laravel's Blade template engine. Create a directory posts in the resources/views directory and create the following two files in it:

index.blade.php

@foreach ($posts as $post)
    <div>
        <h2>{{ $post->title }}</h2>
        <p>{{ $post->content }}</p>
        <a href="{{ url(&#39;posts/&#39; . $post->id) }}">more</a>
    </div>
@endforeach
Copy after login

show.blade.php

<h2>{{ $post->title }}</h2>
<p>{{ $post->content }}</p>
Copy after login
  1. Routing

Finally, we need to create a route so that we can access our website in a browser. Add the following code to the routes/web.php file:

Route::get('/', 'PostController@index');
Route::get('/posts/{id}', 'PostController@show');
Copy after login

Now we can access the website in the browser. Enter the following command on the command line:

php artisan serve
Copy after login

Open the browser and visit http://localhost:8000 to see our new website.

Summary

In this article, we briefly introduced how to use Laravel to quickly build a website. This is just a small part of the Laravel framework, but it's enough to get you up to speed quickly and start building your own website.

Which is better, Django or Laravel? Which is better, Django or Laravel? Mar 28, 2025 am 10:41 AM

Both Django and Laravel are full-stack frameworks. Django is suitable for Python developers and complex business logic, while Laravel is suitable for PHP developers and elegant syntax. 1.Django is based on Python and follows the "battery-complete" philosophy, suitable for rapid development and high concurrency. 2.Laravel is based on PHP, emphasizing the developer experience, and is suitable for small to medium-sized projects.

Laravel and the Backend: Powering Web Application Logic Laravel and the Backend: Powering Web Application Logic Apr 11, 2025 am 11:29 AM

How does Laravel play a role in backend logic? It simplifies and enhances backend development through routing systems, EloquentORM, authentication and authorization, event and listeners, and performance optimization. 1. The routing system allows the definition of URL structure and request processing logic. 2.EloquentORM simplifies database interaction. 3. The authentication and authorization system is convenient for user management. 4. The event and listener implement loosely coupled code structure. 5. Performance optimization improves application efficiency through caching and queueing.

PHP and Laravel are not directly comparable, because Laravel is a PHP-based framework. 1.PHP is suitable for small projects or rapid prototyping because it is simple and direct. 2. Laravel is suitable for large projects or efficient development because it provides rich functions and tools, but has a steep learning curve and may not be as good as pure PHP.

The Laravel development project was chosen because of its flexibility and power to suit the needs of different sizes and complexities. Laravel provides routing system, EloquentORM, Artisan command line and other functions, supporting the development of from simple blogs to complex enterprise-level systems.

Why is Laravel so popular? Why is Laravel so popular? Apr 02, 2025 pm 02:16 PM

Laravel's popularity includes its simplified development process, providing a pleasant development environment, and rich features. 1) It absorbs the design philosophy of RubyonRails, combining the flexibility of PHP. 2) Provide tools such as EloquentORM, Blade template engine, etc. to improve development efficiency. 3) Its MVC architecture and dependency injection mechanism make the code more modular and testable. 4) Provides powerful debugging tools and performance optimization methods such as caching systems and best practices.

Laravel's Primary Function: Backend Development Laravel's Primary Function: Backend Development Apr 15, 2025 am 12:14 AM

Laravel's core functions in back-end development include routing system, EloquentORM, migration function, cache system and queue system. 1. The routing system simplifies URL mapping and improves code organization and maintenance. 2.EloquentORM provides object-oriented data operations to improve development efficiency. 3. The migration function manages the database structure through version control to ensure consistency. 4. The cache system reduces database queries and improves response speed. 5. The queue system effectively processes large-scale data, avoid blocking user requests, and improve overall performance.

Laravel (PHP) vs. Python: Development Environments and Ecosystems Laravel (PHP) vs. Python: Development Environments and Ecosystems Apr 12, 2025 am 12:10 AM

The comparison between Laravel and Python in the development environment and ecosystem is as follows: 1. The development environment of Laravel is simple, only PHP and Composer are required. It provides a rich range of extension packages such as LaravelForge, but the extension package maintenance may not be timely. 2. The development environment of Python is also simple, only Python and pip are required. The ecosystem is huge and covers multiple fields, but version and dependency management may be complex.
