Apple’s iPhone 13 series led global smartphone revenue to a new high of $448 billion in 2021.
Despite difficulties caused by parts shortages, smartphone revenue increased 7% year-on-year and 12% quarter-on-quarter in the fourth quarter of 2021. Apple's iPhone revenue is believed to have increased 35% year-on-year to $196 billion in 2021, its highest quarterly revenue ever. This enabled it to capture 44% of total global smartphone revenue that year.
In addition to leading global revenue to new highs, the success of the iPhone 13 series drove smartphone average selling prices to increase by 12% year-over-year in the fourth quarter of 2021. The top five smartphone brands contribute more than 85% of total smartphone revenue. Samsung smartphone revenue grew 11% year-on-year, while Xiaomi and Oppo grew 49% and 47% respectively.
