Microsoft is making it easier to find Windows apps on the web version of the Microsoft Store. The company has quietly rolled out a redesigned portal for Windows apps on the web, which includes major improvements to make it easier to find the apps you're looking for. This includes a new search bar and improved navigation.
For starters, yes, this new storefront now has a search bar on the left side of the screen. To be clear, you can use the universal search icon at the top of Microsoft's website to search for apps, but this way the search bar is more contextual and only focuses on apps. Below the search bar, there are also various app categories and you can explore different sections. It's arguably more organized than Windows 11's Microsoft Store apps, so we wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the app's experience.
Taking center stage is the app’s home page, which still serves the same purpose. As you scroll down, you'll see a slideshow of several major apps and other popular apps at the top. The overall design does look cleaner and more consistent than previous versions, though.
The new design also extends to individual app pages. When you click on the app's name or image, you'll see a new page, which also now looks cleaner and more organized. At the top, you'll see the app icon, name, and publisher, with a screenshot below it. Next to the screenshot, you can also see when the app was last updated and what languages it is available in. It's worth noting that the previous version didn't mention at all when the app was last updated.
There is no more tabbed navigation in this design. The app's description is below the screenshot (no longer shown twice), followed by ratings and reviews. Related apps can be found at the bottom. One thing that seems to be missing from the apps page is the system requirements.
The last big change is that the Microsoft Store portal can now install Store apps, a feature Microsoft announced with Windows 11 last June. Previously, if you clicked a button to download an app, you would be taken to the Microsoft Store app on Windows to view the full list of apps again and then download it. In this new web version, when you click the "Enter Store App" button, it only opens a small pop-up window to confirm the installation.
